A Thai influencer claims, "Visiting Korea once is enough"

  • A Thai influencer claims, "Visiting Korea once is enough"

Q: South Korea compared to Japan as a tourist destination

A: South Korea is the country that the young generation wants to visit. The country is very competitive when it comes to K-Beauty, club culture, and pretty cafes. But that's all there to it. Especially when the older generation comes to visit the country, they use a tour package and the courses are usually very monotonous. The food they eat is mostly Bibimbap and Barbeque. Especially the 'Orange sauce' (Gochujang) is included in every food we eat, I don't think the older generation will like it so much. On the other hand, there's something new every time you visit Japan. Each of the travel destinations such as Mount Fuji, hot springs, etc, has its own unique color. Their food is also more varied. Every city and neighborhood has its own special souvenir that makes you want to buy them. It's very different from Insa-dong. South Korea is too focused on Seoul. I don't think a lot of Thai people know Busan.

-There are a lot of beautiful places in South Korea, but not a lot of foreigners know about it...

-Everyone has their own preferences, I guess...

-I agree with her to some point. I think she prefers Japan.

-I have to agree with her. South Korea is a comfortable country to live in, but not to travel.

-Well... She didn't say anything that's wrong...

-She's rightㅋㅋ A foreign friend of mine visited Korea and said that there weren't a lot of places to visit.

-She's right. As a Korean, I find South Korea is boring, too.

-Then don't visit us through the travel packages. There are a lot of places to visit hereㅋㅋ

-Is Jeju Island not popular among foreigners? There are a lot of beautiful places in our country. It's a shame that they only know Seoulㅠㅠ

-She's right. I don't even travel in my own country.

-That's something that someone who only has visited Seoul would say.

-Honestly, we're all just pissed because we're compared to Japan. But if you read it thoroughly, she's stating facts.

-I don't want to judge someone's personal opinion. Maybe that's what she feels about our country.

  • I want to travel to both South Korean and Japan, but I feel like it's like comparing Los Angeles to New York or something... similar in a way, but different vibes.

  • I want to visit Daegu ezgif-7-ae94da732c15.gif

There might be a lot of beautiful places in Korea, but they don't getting promotion as much as how Japan promoting their tourism spots. They're not focus on promoting just one place like Tokyo alone, but also Kyoto, Yamanashi, Hokkaido, Osaka, etc. We have more options to choose historical places, natures, shopping, big cities, hot spring.

I want to visit Japan. :send-love-bunny:

  • you guys visit another country more than once?

    true that

I'd be fortunate to even get to all the countries on my bucket list in my lifetime

  • I think the comments have a point that foreigners just don't put effort into actually looking at other places to visit in Korea. Also to me, most people know more about Japanese tourist destinations than Korean ones. Could be a case of one country being more popular internationally

But you can say that about any country. I think the point she was trying to make is that in Japan you don't have to search for other places, they're more visible.

  • isn't Japan four times bigger than Korea if we look at land area itself?

not to mention how different places are there?

for example you have volcano in Kagoshima, beaches in Okinawa, most 'snowy' city Aomori

to add to that you have Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, not to mention bomb sites in Hiroshima and Nagasaki

but to add to that maybe real problem is that Koreans don't really know how to show their country well?

like what you can really do in Seoul? there are some nice places but that's one day of sightseeing...

if you want to see more you should go to Jeonju, Busan, Ulsan, Suwon, Gyeongju, Pohang, DMZ etc.

  • I mostly agree with what that person said. When I see travel vlogs of people in S.K (especially young people) all they do is go to cafés and eat food, no tourist places, or they go to a cup sleeve event, or a concert, and do it all over again, compared to Japan travel vlogs where people are doing different things everyday, it seems tourists in s.k (hallyu wave fans + young ppl) don't do much.
