I honestly thought it couldn't get blander than ditto. it's a flop for me. What kind of genre are they going for? Lo-fi?
The MV and visuals were at pretty tho.

Little did they know that the name Fifty Fifty has no value. People know Cupid, not Fifty Fifty.
This. People saying they plan to go abroad as if they actually have an international fan base built. It speaks volumes that even after Cupid blew up their members are still virtually unknown.
This take feels very Eurocentrism.
It made no noise because Columbia hasn't done jack shit for IVE's so-called U.S. promotions. At best, they helped with some distribution, but still nothing in major retail stores. Just some obscure online link to buy albums. There were no U.S tv show appearances or anything. Oh, but they did make one post about IVE's comeback on their social media account. So, there's that ig.
Anyway, the hope now is that IVE is actually working on an English release and that's when Columbia will actually step in to do something. But I see why BTS dropped them. We can only pray for Treasure.
They are smart. For every company to grow, they need innovation. They are already a music streaming platform, the next big step would obviously be to add MVs for said music. Furthermore, as someone pointed out above, this is something their competitors, YouTube Music and Apple Music, already do. So really, it's more like they are actually catching up. Plus, I don't think most people would be dissatisfied with getting even more convenient services such as being able to stream songs and watch MVs at the same time.
"from 51 to 99%"
Kakao owns about 40%, not half. Yes, they are very close to acquiring SM, and will probably do so in the near future, but until they own at least 50%, it's false to say they own SM.
Kakao has majority shares in SM, but SM is not yet a subsidiary of Kakao. So I wouldn't say that it is just because of SM. Even in the tweet, you can see that SM is still listed separately as it's own entity. Whereas when it comes to Kakao Entertainment, the only big name under them that most people would think of is IVE. There is IU too, but she's usually the second to come to mind. If anything, it's a combination of both.
Yeah, I pretty much agree. Jihan is my pick on this show, too. So, I'm happy for her. It's just mnet has no subtly at all.
They are obsessed with Jihan.
All the Communists say that.
Even Ruth Bader Ginsburg admitted Roe v. Wade was an incorrect decision that was outside the Court’s authority to render. But, you see, the Democrats have now had fifty years and multiple opportunities with simultaneous control of the House, Senate, and Presidency to pass a Federal law codifying Roe v. Wade in all fifty states.
They have never dared to do so.
"All the communists said that" and they would be right. I'd say something else, but I'm not sure how the mods would react to me calling someone a nazi.
Nazis run the government, that's what.
a lot of idols like irene for example have shown that the company pushes a certain "personality" on them. whether a certain individual could pull it off or not is completly up to them. and how are you sure that that certain behaviour observed from sullyoon's part is not her branding? a naive fairy like visual is a solid branding, and how are you sure that sullyoon is failing as an idol? jyp does not push individual promotions until years after debut, she is still pretty well-known and is even part of the visual trinity. Jooe became popular then because the idol market needed someone like her, think a little if a certain type of visuals calls for a certain type of branding then the lack of visuals calls for another type of branding, Jooe is talented and funny but there are other idols just as funny and talented but did not get the same chances.
more or less, personality will never account for anything in the idol world because we do not know these people first and we do not have the right to put labels on them second, it's literally their job.
I'm sorry, but I feel like you're just bringing up a lot of random argument that has nothing to do with my original talking point. Yes, all idols (celebrities in general) have images that are curated - literally, no one said otherwise. But I also feel like you are overexaggerating the extent to which this happens and are dehumanizing these idols by reducing them to mere puppets who can't think and act for themselves. I wish I could remember the idol who said it, but there was one who mentioned how their company wanted them to be the silent, cool type, but after a while, the company gave up because the idol couldn't remain consistent as was too playful. To assume that idols are nothing but "brands" without any agency of their own is to say that they aren't human.
As for the example of Irene you mentioned? Yeah, no shit. Companies try to control idols' images all the time. That's literally their job. And yet, what is her image now? Power-trip-dol? Oh, okay. But anyway, please feel free to expound on on what you meant. Be specific. In exactly what way has Irene shown that the company has pushed specific personalities, oh, and don't forget to mention the effectiveness of that push.
Now, pertaining to Sullyoon, I really don't know if I should even bother continuing talking about her because you've made it pretty obvious that you're a fan of hers, and I've somehow offended you with my words by comparing her to the "lowly" Jooe.
Just to make it clear, though, literally nowhere did I call Sullyoon a failure. I was using her as an example of a relative comparison. Another example of someone like Sullyoon is Tzuyu, and obviously, Tzuyu isn't a failure, now is she? She is literally part of one of the biggest third gen K-pop groups in the world and is very successful, but I would still call her a flower without a scent.
edit: I just saw there is a thread comparing Sullyoon and Tzuyu now lol
"Left-wing riots" mmkay.
correction : branding, no one is showing his true personnality to the public, they are showing what the company instructed them to show, fans are not entitled to know more than they should. and Jooe is not that popular, she was known to be the comedian of the group, the girl that they pity because she was not meeting the beauty standard. they gave her some attention for a while until they hopped to the new funny not so gorgeous girl.
Branding does play a part, but these things aren't the same. Branding can only do so much if you don't have the actual personality to support that brand. As for Jooe, yes, she was known as the comedian of the group, but that's exactly my point. She was known. You say Jooe wasn't popular but the general public actually knew her and she had her own solo brand endorsement and cfs, something you can't say the same about Sullyoon. That is my point. JYP could give Sullyoon Jooe's "brand" tomorrow, but because she comes across as very subdued and anyone would be able to clock that she was either forcing it or uncomfortable and it would be awkward. And also, why are you pointing out that Jooe wasn't known for being gorgeous as if that wasn't literally my point? I'm saying her personality and charm are what got her to that level, not her looks.
Display Morein order of importance
visuals
age

I would also add personality/charm.
Visuals are probably one of the most important things when it comes to being an idol, but personality/charm is almost just as important. If you don't have any personality/charm, you can end up Sullyoon, a flower without a scent. Whereas we had someone like Momoland Jooe, who stood out and became well-known to the general public because of her strong character rather than her looks.
I rarely listen to 4th gen boy groups these days, but whenever I do, it's usually only because I hear a part of the song somewhere, and it sounds good to me. But then, I'll search for the song to listen to, only for the song to be ruined by this horrible talk-rap/chanty chorus that continuously breaks up the flow of the music.
The most recent examples I can think of are TXT and Enhypen.
the part I am talking about is at 1:13
the part in this one is 0:37.
It's disappointing, especially when listening to Bite Me because the vocal parts are SO good, smooth, and perfect. Then, just as it's marinating, in comes the grating chant talk chorus. It's like listening to a record scratch.
To further emphasize my point, when I think about songs in the same vein as these (i.e smooth, sensual) but from older generations, you can note the difference.
I feel like THIS is what those songs were supposed to be giving. And yes, both songs have short rap breaks, but that's all they are. Short rap breaks that aren't a part of the chorus. They only come at the end and pretty much function as the climax. I can't help but feel if Growl or Mirotic put out during the 4th gen they would have lost a lot of their appeal with the way they make songs these days.
The funny thing about this is that I often see girl groups get called out about their unnecessary rap verses and stuff like that, but boy groups often get a pass.
One thing for sure from the editing it's clear Mnet wants Nana and Jihan. They are 100% locked. They get a lot of screen time, and Mnet always airs their performances first, knowing they will benefit from an extra week of votes. Meanwhile, the ones they don't really care about have to wait a whole week before their performances get aired and even if they have any outstanding moments, it may not be enough to keep them in the running.
Mnet also seems pretty biased toward Kei as well, but I wouldn't say she is 100% locked like Nana and Jihan. Maybe 60-75%
Then there is the case of Juri and Miru. Honestly, I prefer Miru, but I would be happy if either of them were to be able to get this opportunity. However, it's clear from how much screen time Juri gets that between the two of them, Juri is Mnet's preferred Japanese pick. Then again, it could be because Juri speaks more Korean and has groupmates that she can bounce off of for a storyline, while Miru is just kinda there ( tbf the same could be said for the Thai girl too, but Mnet gave her highlights this episode, so). However, from a brief clip in the preview, it looks like Miru will be highlighted a little more next week. So that might change, though I doubt it.
