It’s album sales not charts. NJ still lead.

Unless it’s less than 7 days. longer preorders period doesn’t mean higher sales.

Most of the sales come from the first week.

However I agree the cb is rushed. The teaser pic is ass. They should cb on April 3 so they’d have a week to promote and next week MB Paris so they can promote the TT. Now they will fly back to back.

Has New Jeans actually managed to beat After Like unique listeners peak on the charts? Or are you just referring to the empty house they had on the charts for the earlier part of the year?

It doesnt matter, the moment subsidiaries such as Starship and SM are considered independent by Kakao it's Kakao's obligation to let the subsidiaries work in an independent way.

Kakao letting SM work in an independent way makes even more sense than letting Starship be independent exactly because SM is big fish. They want to keep generating that income.

What could happen is that they give more power to SM so they could work together with other music subsidiaries. But that can only happen if CEOs of other independent subsidiaries are ok with that. I am only guessing since I'm not into korean business, but it's what makes sense to me. Making all these subsidiaries work together just because SM arrived sounds too easy and simple. There's going to be opposition for sure if it's the case. Other CEOs won't accept the preferential treatment or be willing to give up their best resources to a bigger fish, much less SM will give away their stuff to smaller labels. That's why these labels are independent subsidiaries. It wasnt like that before, it's probably not going to change now. Besides Starship x SM x other labels that arent even under Kakao already have history of working together for cfs, collabs and such.

yes, well, there are already articles that came out saying Kakao other subsidiaries will now have access to SM in producers and their trainers or training facility (something like that) which already shows what the potential future might look like. As I said, yes, right now Kakao subsidiaries are entirely independent, but there is no reason it will remain that way in the near future. Speaking of independence, HYBE labels are also "independent" (especially if what Min Hee Jin claims is true and there was no interference from Bang PD and the other guy running thr company), and yet all of HYBE groups still function as a "family" so to speak. There is still cohesion.

I've already said how it is several times. And if you actually search about it you could see too. Kakao subsidiaries work in an independent way. Just because Kakao owns them doesnt mean they will interfer or they can exchange staff, artists or producers. It's not how it works.

Kakao owns these companies because they are a source of passive income. They arent going to change or let other subsidiaries change anything when these subsidiaries work in an independent way. Kakao owns many companies, but these companies work alone, separated from each other. Its not Kakao Family like you guys seem to think. Kakao is a tech company, not a music company like Hybe. Thats why messing with their music labels is not their business. They bought these companies so they can keep functioning on its own but redirect money and power to Kakao instead.

Basically nothing changes once Kakao buys a subsidiary that they call independent. These subsidiaries arent going to work together just because its owned by the same company.

This is true, but that's in the past. SM isn't like all of Kakao's other little subsidiaries. It's one of the top three entertainment companies in Korea, and with this purchase, we know Kakao has big plans for SM and will actually be doing some managing for once. They are even installing their own BOD. And while yes, we know a lot of what they plan to do is on the IP and tech side of things, it's not impossible that they are also interested in finally organizing their smaller subsidiaries. SM 3.0 plan literally said they planned to move toward a multi-label system similar to HYBE. Now that Kakao is involved, it's not impossible that they intend to reign their other subsidiaries under Kakao M into that system as well and move toward a new form of management.

why are some people losing their marbles over this?

Seen so many weird comments like this by Hybe stans. All SM 3.0 plan said is that it will increase promotions for their artists and they someone how concluded that meant tying collars around the artists throats and beating them with whips to perform until they drop. They are so dramatic and for what?
