Red Velvet? Fall very fast? I don’t think so.

That’s why PAK is overrated.

That That surpassed Tomboy again in Melon ULs, it loses less than TB each hour for now.
It has a good shot at SOTY at awards with voting. If no other BTS/solo member song gets nominated and ARMY decides to give 100% in voting it has a shot. Ofc LD & TB will have the advantage in digitals but BTS' only competition in voting is LYW.
And well judge's scores are unpredictable.
Psy just activated a “Min Yoongi” card today and it’s for sure VERY EFFECTIVE!!!

People really think you have to be number one to be a hit. Dun dun dance, ASAP, PTD, eleven, savage did great queendom AF, dreams come true aren’t mega hits but they did quite well.
This year we have R2u, smile, Step back, fearless but for some reason people act only Tomboy, that that, love dive, still life exist
Yes, so many songs this year also cracking Top 5/Top 10 just like last year.
As I said again, I didn’t say 2022 > 2021, I just didn’t think 2021 > 2022 at all in term of chart competitiveness.

If judge by overall OSTs performance

Kpop Girls Charts on Twitter“#BOL4 "Love story" on Daily Charts [2022/07/15] #22 Bugs [=] #22 MelOn [+3] *new peak* #25 Genie [+5] *new peak* #71 VIBE [+6] *new peak*”www.twitter.com
Don’t know what cause a rise in recent weeks but I have noticed its rise for few days now. Top 10 may be possible if if still keeps rising.

Disevidence has listed all artists with Top 5 in his post and it’s still 2022 > 2021. Yes, artists who performed well in 2021 don’t live up to the same performances in 2022 but we also get new artists coming into the scene in 2022 too like (G)i-dle, IVE and the return of Psy and Big Bang. Some artists also perform better this year than last year like Taeyeon, Red Velvet.
We can say at the end of the year, which year is stronger after we see the whole 2022 but right now I think it’s pretty much the same
-
Tbh, I can’t really see which one between 2021 and 2022 is the more exciting one too.
First half of 2021 got started by Celebrity (before that were VVS & Shining star which were 2020 songs)
#1 song (not included 2020)
- Celebrity
- Rollin’
- Lilac
(Back to Rollin’)
- Peaches* (JB)
- Butter
- Foolish love (MSG wannabe)
So 7 songs until this point last year (6 if you count only Korean artists)
Now for 2022 excluding Counting stars and Drinking confession (2021 songs)
- INVU
- Ganadara
- Tomboy
- Still live
- That that
(Back to Tomboy)
- At that moment (WSG wannabe)
Same amount of songs, and currently topped by a project group
2021 has a high peak with IU? 2022 has Big Bang
So I don’t really see which year is the less crap out of the 2
If anything, 2022 is potentially shaped to be better (2021 has only 2 more new songs topping the chart until Mid October: Traffic light and Stay* (another International songs))

It's not just kpop that is being impacted, you see it with kdramas and their OST's as well.
You used to get huge OST's/kdramas every year and now shows with 20%+ ratings struggle to get more than one big song if they even get that. People are cord cutting more and more and switching to OTT services whereas before the main option was watching a drama on TV and then everyone would hear those songs and they'd get big.
Exactly why variety show promotion used to be so important and impactful. Shows like Running Man and Knowing Bros were responsible for a lot of viral moments for the 2nd/3rd gen that pushed them to another level. Jennie on Running Man, Sana's Cheese Kimbap on Knowing Bros being standouts for the 3rd gen. Everyone used to tune in regardless of demographic so the top 2nd and 3rd gen groups have a lot of name recognition with the public.
The TV crowd now that push ratings are the older population who don't normally impact the charts or success a huge amount whereas the young adults/teens are on Youtube, Netflix and the like, so there's a large divide now in a lot of media that didn't exist before. I'd say the last show to have a semi-successful OST all around was Our Beloved Summer and its rating rarely got above 5% but it was very popular on Netlfix Korea, so was driven on the charts by the young adult population on Netflix.
Success for songs and kdramas are so different now to what they used to be. Achieved in different ways and showcased in different ways also. It's why I'm finding the term "national hit" a bit outdated these days as well as there's no easy way to judge it anymore. Consumption is now divided all over the place
The Gaon chart channel did a video on physicals versus digitals recently. It would be really interesting if you could see SK specific sales but I don't think we'd ever get that data and international fans probably make it impossible with the non-shipped back nonsense and whatnot.
This year has an OST with big hit: Love maybe by Melomnace from “Business proposal” sitting comfortably in the Top 10 for months now. The funny thing is they also appeared in the drama so it’s a promotion in some way. I don’t think there is any close contender for this year OST of the year at this point.

Girls is underperforming big time. Not yet top10 after a week. And no wsg is not the reason for it. Maybe after promos it'll enter.
Too early to say the song is underperformed when we have so many examples of songs rising up a lot after their initial poor charting.
-
So tomorrow jhope ran itzy
Will wsg or whatever drop more songs later? I remember pass MBC show groups drop some other songs after their debut
Maybe 1 or 2 final songs as a whole group (12 members) but probably 2-3 weeks from now as the show will focus on promotion of these released songs this week.

How is Taeyeon at 70m? INVU is 34m, Can't control myself is 16m, and sure there are other b-sides, but would they get 20m?
For reference, Weekend the single is 33655994 listed under "Weekend" Album, Weekend the album version is 34626120 listed under Album "INVU".
In comparison I have Tomboy at 47M, My Bag at 17m, Never Stop me is 4m, so that's 68m there. So all the other b-sides for IND get 2M, and Taeyeon's got 20m?
I'm skeptical of those figures being correct, I think they've included streaming from Weekend post album release, and I don't think that's how it works.
Edit - yes, Weekend is 19.7M from INVU's release date. I really don't think Taeyeon's digital score is anywhere near that tbh.
That’s why I ask whether Weekend would be included into Taeyeon’s album digital count or not because if it does, it will help her points a lot.

Do you think she'd have a shot at any album of the year awards this year? LYW is guaranteed to have the highest points already though and I suppose Gidle and someone else could surpass it
Most “Album of the year” awards depend on physical sales alone except Melon which I think she has a pretty decent chance after Im Young Woong and (G)i-dle. I can’t remember if the criteria will count old songs too or not but if it counts, “Weekend” will help her numbers a lot.

Too bold to assume that WSG wannabe longetivity will be bad. MSG wannabe charting for “Foolish love” was okay. Top 10 for around 18 weeks and still pretty solid in Top 100 after more than a year screams good longetivity to me.
And for its first 365 days total cumulative UL (https://가이섬.com/melon/365dayscount/2021), it’s at #7 which is pretty solid.
I think WSG wannabe will perform probably the same or even better.

I remember making a comment about WSG not doing well a few weeks back. Didn't know they still had more releases.
It never stopped people listening to it though as it felt much more organic than Nilo to most, but I guess Bad Habits came out a few weeks before he was fully cleared so might have had some impact. It still got to the top 30 just never pushed on from there and I don't think it spent any time above Way Back Home which was still going strong
Those were just for the audition. Same as when MSG wannabe release “Journey to Atlantis” back then and released new songs like “Foolish love” later.
