Can't speak for others, but in my country SNSD-Gee and SJ-Sorry Sorry was the one who open the Kpop gate. Them along with drama like 'Full House' and 'Boys Over Flowers' was the one who truly started Hallyu Wave in my country. I don't even think TVXQ was popular among Kpop fans here tbh.

I just finished watching Festa and RM specifically said 2015-2017 was tough and so many people hate them at that time. So, I guess BTS also feel the same way abt those years. It's still amazing tho, that year was truly the beginning of their journey to the top (which might explain all the hate they got).

Eh, I'm pretty sure they didn't suddenly blew up. It's a gradual climb since debut (more noticably since 2015), esp with I Need U (in Korea) and when Dope went semi viral on Youtube for international audience.
What was that like to witness? I wasn't here until early 2017.
Speaking as a fan, 2015-2016 was really ugly in term of fanwars imo, esp 2015 (nothing can top those years for me). Seriously, so many useless BS happened throughout the year. So many plagiarism accusation thrown at BTS, sajaengi accusation (to the point where Bighit went to the court to prove their innocence), RM+BTS got mocked and laughed at by the entire Kpop community when he said he wants to win ONE Daesang in his entire career, the old narrative "BTS need a hit song to be called a Top Group", etc. Oh, I also remember the petition to the Blue House, when BTS won their first Daesang bcs some ppl thought it's very undeserved, man thats so absurd. Sorry for chiming in lol.

Worldwide, KPOP imo. Some group are way ahead than the others tho. I mean, physical sales and youtube views are on the rise in general. On the chart like BB200, back then during 2nd gen era only 4 acts manage to enter the chart (BoA, Bigbang, SNSD, @@@2a098d95-4251-428d-abcd-5a6c81f45e50@@@), but right now there are 13/14 new acts that can enter the chart. So I'd say thats an improvement overall.
The only place where Kpop are declining/stagnating are the old market like Korea, Japan, and China imo.

Not to mention every BG have this big obstacle called Military Enlistment. Yet, a lot of them still end up outliving their GG peers.

Except for Spring Day

Queen Spring Day is the only exception Ig

Twice is stable in genie and bugs at this hour which is not common bc BTS should have kick them out by now
Aespa reaction to so high charting at the begining is hype as a new gg, smth twice doesn't have anymore
I wonder how bg will do bc it seem like the only thing that can move the charts as they been the same for the last 2 weeks
nah, iirc BTS-Butter often lost it's 1st position on Bugs during midnight hour, so I'm not really surprise. Despite what ppl say, I think BTS K-fandom already past their midnight mass-streaming era tbh.

First gfriend left and then now mamamoo wheein didn't resign. soon we will hear same about redvelvet, irene bully scandal confirmed it. Then we will hear about twice members not resigning... .only blackpink might survive.
few months ago everyone was arguing 4th has not even started but now 3rd gen is coming crashing down. it is similar to how it happened with 2nd gen, 3rd gen started in 2012 and by 2016 2nd gen groups were all gone. Now history is repeating, 4th gen started in 2018 and by 2022 most of the 3rd will be gone excluding bts and blackpink.
Don't forget BTS military enlistment and Blackpink contract renewal time is coming around 2022/2023 as well. No one is safe really.
