Music is not only promted at music shows. Watch Do's and Taeyeon's last comeback and the way they promoted their music you'll see that I meant that it doesn't have to be as much as music shows for it to be a promotion.
Also, Sooyoung is already promoting her solo debut before it even happens and she's not doing it on music shows.
Lol! You've kinda made my day with this. All i see is we are talking but not understanding each other.
Glad to have made your day, with whatever it was.

You are Exol so you've seen CBX, Chen, Baekhyun, Yoona etc promote their Osts and singles or other releases on TV shows, radio shows, at events like drama premieres, fan meetings and at their concerts. Jessica still sings her Ost with Onew at her concerts.
As for age, some older idols do promote again after a while especially now in Kpop. Sooyoung always wanted to sing and wanted recognition for her singing abilities, Tiffany has implied that she wants to sing again and her and Seohyun know that they can sing and have successful careers to a certain extent.
I believe different idols usually have different contracts. Is Taemin promoting on music shows? If he is then, either SM earns from his solo music career or he got a good deal.
I've never considered OSts comebacks and if they have promoted them it has really gone under my radar. I woud have loved to see Yoona performed Amazing Grace when she released it as OST for the K2. And Baekhyun and Chen would never leave music shows if they were to promote every OST they release. Singing it at fan meeting or requesting it when doing radio shows, albeit promotion, I do not count them as promoting. Neither it is singing it at concerts. I don't know if they have ever won a music show with an OST.
You're set on believing they can't have music careers because SM has them in some blacklist. I do not see it that way. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Taemin did promote with his latest comeback. It seems since Shinee was never considered that big of a group by SM, they have advantage when negotiating their contracts. But it proves a music career once out of SM is possible. Although I admit that the moments of their departure might have played in the way they left the company.

This can be very true and I made that observation because all 3 have shown interest in music post Snsd. They tour and sing for fans and yet they didn't even sing the singles they released or promote the singles or even talk about them or anything which was as if they aren't allowed to.
And, what you are saying is obviously the basis for them not renewing with SM and for SM to agree to do it in the first place. If they asked to stay as Snsd and chose to leave to do music outside SM, something that SM invested in them for years for, SM would've just disbanded the group and blacklisted them like they did Jessica because the Snsd brand is too big so are Sone. A good push from another label can make them bigger global stars outside SM but another career route means then starting all over again which works for SM.
I don't think any of the post releases were actual comebacks. At least not Sooyoung's, and I've never heard of idols promoting OSTs either. I might be wrong.
I think they can become big stars outside SNSD and with another brand, but they are too old for the new kpop market and their fame won't go beyond Asia if they choose to do so. I know they have international fans but not to the levels of new groups. And of course a new music career means starting from scratch.
I was going to put D.O.'s case as an example of an idol leaving SM and releasing new music afterwatds but I don't remember if he promoted Mars on music shows but I think he did win one. CBX is not a case as they are still under SM.
But Taemin left SM and has released new music and promoted in music shows under his new label, so there is a case it might not be entirely true.
But, ultimately, I have no idea what their deal with SM are or if they are really blacklisted in music shows. I hope Sooyoung sheds light on it on her debut showcase in Japan.

I thought the three members departed because they have other interests and wanted other opportunities. And they already had a legendary music career on their backs. So no, I've never seen it that way. I think Seohyun released a song after leaving SM (Respect Legend, I think is the name). I'm more inclined to think they are more interested in other fields of entertainment. Sooyoung released some singles post-SNSD. She choosing Japan to debut as a solo singer might have to do with the fact she was more popular in Japan than in Korea and that she actually debuted as a singer in a duo in Japan before being in SNSD. Tiffany tried to have a career in English and as such I guess the US were her natural destination. She saw her music was nowhere near taking off, or surviving, there so she headed back to Korea where she is still famous. Honestly, I loved her solo music but I also loved she is branching out to musicals and acting. And as others have said, they weren't among the most popular members, which is a pitty because they all three are incredibly talented and amazing women.

I don't know I gladly slept on them for years until they snatched me and I didn't want to know about other bg ever again. Dramatic statement aside, they had everything I might have expected ona bg and more, easily exceeded all my expectations and the more I saw, the more I like.
Even if today, new fans and EXO erasers are succeedding, with the help of SM, in deleting EXO's contributions from kpop history, I know they exist and are the best, dont ask me what I am drinking or smoking because I won't share.

I thought they were making a duet but this was so wholesome

BLACKPINK and Red Velvet. I used to like Blackpink for their music and choreographies but it all dwindled when they started showing this diva, unreachable image in some videos and they were more luxury brand ambassadors than idols. I'm still amazed how they became one of the greatest groups out there with so little releases. Their music is not bad but I wouldn't call it good either.
Red Velvet, ever since their attempt to become Summer queens, my interest in their music has been waning to the point I barely check anything they release either as a group, subunit or solo.
