(Appears they got their info from press releases, so it's most likely true)

Also sounds like YGplus has some distribution pipelines BH will now have access to!

Agreed on your overview - Weverse grows, YGplus grows, they both walk away with more money and relevance. If all goes well it might all become one marketing/distribution platform that is jointly owned by the two agencies. (The marketing platform part, not Weverse as a whole)

The reactions are REALLY funny, my favorite is BH IS DISNEY 2.0 OMG OMG

Actually what's happening is the opposite - notice BH isn't buying these cos, they're forming separate partnerships, allowing YG to stay independent and not get eaten up by the REAL monopoly of CJ ENM, the real 'Disney' of Korea (or Kakao M, which is massive and about to go public)

The media conglomerates are the real danger here. But yes I actually think the reaction is mostly okay! At least from more mature stans.

I mean CJ ENM and Kakao M (and NCsoft, with NC universe) would like to have a word with your idea that BH is the biggest mover and shaker in Korean Entertainment - BH is just setting themselves up as competition for those v big boys.

Monopoly has a very specific meaning

Kpop fans have to stop confusing what kind of company BH is becoming - a content provider, not primarily an entertainment agency. In that sector they have LOTS of competition.

Lots of ARMY can be too emotional and reactionary and thus easily manipulated to freak out. The witch hunts against translators, BH employees/staff, random accts that say something dumb (but not that big a deal) and collaborators/ppl that mention BTS are nuts and end up in embarrassment 90% of the time.

It might usually be started by solos and secret antis but it gains traction and can get ridiculous. It's the flip side of how much we care and want to protect the boys - it can easily be curdled into something angry + thoughtless bc that's how social media is built to roll. It's our biggest weakness and what professional and obsessed trolls use against us.

    Passion has two sides, really.

    ARMYS

    This it drives me nuuuuuts

social media is built on clout, we should only call out the blatant + tacky ones who clearly don't care abt BTS at all (like that strange WHO guy)

You're not annoying at all! It's confusing. This is my understanding from what they've told us:

Mixtapes are fully produced, written, etc by the members, and while they can request help from company employees it sounds like those employees get to choose to be involved and it's all pretty voluntary. The company staff will also assess it hold it to their usual standards but revisions fall on the artists as well. This work is done outside of the usual schedule.

So the point is it to be the free expression of the artists without the pressure but also without the full support that goes behind a full release that will have the usual promo, roll-out, physicals, etc

They also see these as a gift to fans, music that doesn't come with an expectation of purchase; their passion is music, making it and sharing it, and it separates the "BH - BTS style" and the member's personal expression

While free, they can still enter the billboard charts because of streaming numbers and itunes/them being placed on paid-music sites. (They do this because ARMY request it/WANT to pay for them) as well as MV views such as for Daechwita

BH will however gladly - and it sounds like of their own volition, Hobi was surprised there was going to be a full MV for Chicken Noodle Soup and it was such a big deal - support and pay for videos that I'm guessing they split the profit with the artist for. however, we're not aware of how that works exactly; Yoongi was able to turn Daechwita into the amazing thing we saw from what was supposedly a very simple initial idea. The vid was his concept. Did he pay to upgrade it, or did the co? Unsure. They're very very rich men now, so either is possible.

At times mix tape songs will get snapped up the company to become official releases, like Stay and Your Eyes Tell by Jungkook (he told us they were meant for his mixtape, so that's a reason for the delay/he needs new songs) were. This is good for the creating member, bc that means they'll make much much more money off those songs. Bang PD wanted Everythinggoes from Mono to be a BTS song but Namjoon said it was too personal and wanted it on his mixtape.

The Members themselves keep repeating that their focus is on BTS - the way they still only do brand sponsorships as 7 after their contract show that it's clearly a preference. Both them and BigHit could make MUCh more more money sending them out individually as well like other companies do, but they seem to have no interest in that or going solo. The solos they get on official releases appears to be their focus.

We'll see what happens in time! But yeah think of mixtapes as gifts, really, and the members sharing music just for music's sake with us.

WARNING: this will make you cry:sadhua:

    OMG this thread shambles along

BTS's music is the secret, it remains the secret, it is what allows BTS to be taken seriously as a music act the way no other kpop group is, certainly not the 2nd gen.

The divider is that BTS is a music act and everyone else is a kpop act in the global pop culture scene eye's. The next group to climb that wall will be the one that successfully has 'walked the path' that BTS has paved.

ARMYs: BigBang has never paved the way for BTS.

Also ARMYs: BTS has paved the way for ATEEZ. How??????

This is kinda a simplification of the conversation, but you also unwittingly admit that ARMY aren't a monolith? Also the dumb 'flopteez' style fanwarring overwhelmingly comes from multis and kpop-focused 'ARMY'. The vast majority of BTS fans don't spare a thought for Atz or any of their competition. We just know that Kpop rose up at the same time BTS did.

Yes, they shaped today's kpop, and BTS stepped out of it - and created a revolution that no other group has successfully followed because they are *still following that same kpop path*. BP's success has quite a different shape in itself.

It's pretty straightforward, as BTS rose the rest of kpop rose. The graphs almost show a lockstep rise, just that BTS is several bars above everyone else.

There are many receipts of the hell that BTS went through and disrespect well into 2016 because they weren't Big3 or even Big7. That's not just ARMY spin.

As BTS mainstreamed it gave Kpop a legitimacy and introduced it to many people who then looked further and became kpop stans. The current numbers are overwhelmingly bc of this process of media attention and rising legitimacy. Still, BTS and kpop are starting to pull further apart as time goes on.

Daechwita; I respect Bobby's flow and he's fast af but I feel like he's yelling at me. Also Yoongi's flow and delivery changes in Daechwita are insane and really elevate the song and vid.

Also gonna say it: I'm entertained by how there's - 1. Bobby hanging out in a room that turns out to be in a moving vehicle (AgustD) and 2. he's fighting shadowy figures/surrounded by them (Shadow and Daechwita, but especially Shadow) Such extremely specific motifs and yet this vid uses both.

I think these convenient parallels and comparisons - spread further by threads like this - are exactly what YG was going for.

You do know this sort of repackaging is super super common in music, right? (And books, and dvds)

It's a marketing tactic and is most key for retail sales, which BTS has shockingly high numbers of despite it being 2021 - studies have shown that humans react strongly to things like #1 BESTSELLING and XXXXX NOMINEE!!! We're suckers for it, it's why you see it all over everything. But they're right to put it on all versions bc as an ARMY you bet your ass I want that flex on mine, too. :danceb:

Your opinion on BE not being good is your opinion and good for you, but hard pass on your attempt to claim that's an accepted view of it when it's quite the opposite. ARMY loved it, it's beautifully produced, and it matches the vibe and promised comfort perfectly. It was very well reviewed.

Sorry you're mad, but not really sorry - you're just pulling dumb claims out of random holes to fake outrage in the name of fanwars. Such a waste of time.

My dream: a new single and MV AND a Dis-ease MV; they've been so quiet lately and totally had time

Trot version of Dyna let's gooooo

    Delulu + proud :pepe-cowboy:

What I believe: Definitely at least an MV of a b-side, but I think the chances of a new song are super high. their language about the track numbers is super vague? Maybe dropping the skit for a song.

so would it be like a repackage...?

We're not quite sure how much of a repackage it is? Maybe a straight one, maybe new content. Depends on what the 'gifts' end up being!

Well they fucked it with the original release they had to come up with something quick

BE was never part of their original CB schedule though - it purposefully had 7 pcs for example so fans weren't even motivated to buy multiple copies. They always presented it as a gift.

Dynamite is probably the deciding factor for a re-release and new promo schedule. keeps their hype alive into the grammys and gives something new to fans, including the millions of new ARMY we've minted since August. (And an affordable version to sell going forward)

just weird to come out with the deluxe version first and then act coy about revealing if there"s gonna be a less expensive version or not making some people panic buy with the supposed limited supply. just the lack of transparency kind of rubs me the wrong way.

I get that - it doesn't me because I think they wanted to gift fans with something truly put together by all of them and that was special, like a gift. Still unsure if they originally planned a second version?

But then dynamite happened and this has the potential to be their biggest album (until their next biggest album), and having one that can sit on the physical charts for eternity is a smart thing to do.

Also seems like we're getting at least an MV for another song? (Or perhaps even a new song?) The schedule screams new single. So it might also turn out to be a repackage, in a way.
