Is anyone watching The Oath of Love?

  • Oh, not a good sign then. Yes, Chinese dramas drag their story a lot, modern dramas esp should be shorter.

well my wife saw it and loved it...so make of that what you will my friend lol

personally I prefer the longer dramas since they tell more of the story especially for historic or period/costume dramas

Lol contradicting opinions make it confusing but it gives one a reason to try to check it out themselves before judging. If your wife liked it then I may like it as well.

Yup, for historical dramas, I prefer longer eps as well. All the good ones, be it Nirvana In Fire 1 & 2, The Story of Minglan, The Rise of Phoenixes etc. have many eps. That's why I mentioned modern dramas specifically bcoz I don't remember loving any modern Chinese drama with lots of eps wholeheartedly.

well my wife loves xiao zhan and yang zi and thought they carried the story very well

she's also chinese like me so again make of that what you will lol

nice nice some great dramas...I'm usually not a fan of modern dramas unless they have "veteran actors" or a good plot...but I've heard because of modern censor laws that no drama can have more than 40 episodes so what do the prodcution companies do - create two season of 40 episodes each lol (I think the one called Blue Whisper costume drama with Dilireba)

The reason I'm interested in this drama is also bcoz of the leads, I know they're good. I have watched Yang Zi in various dramas, Ode to Joy, Go Go Squid, Ashes of Love so I know the girl can act. Xiao Zhan's craze was solely due to The Untamed but he is a good actor.

Yup, the ones with veteran actors (and with less rom plot) they do have some good dramas.

Oh, I didn't know that. Their censor laws do a lot, not surprised with restrictions.

that's the same reason my wife watched as well because of the actors so if you liked them both then according to her they carried the drama...

yeah at my age I like to focus more on the "family" type dramas such as All is Well as oppose to the rom com ones if I'm going to be watching a modern drama but they better have those veteran actors

yeah so things like BL dramas might be taking a hit as well but the production companies always make do...

I'll give it a try soon. Btw I'd love to talk to your wife about dramas if she ever join allkpop, I love watching Chinese dramas, all kinds.😅

I've heard about All is Well but the cast didn't interest me as I was unfamiliar with all of them so I gave it a pass.

Romcom modern chinese dramas are the weakest, I agree.

not likely lol she's the one that calls kpop noise music...

have you seen Journey of a Flower? it's probably my fav xianxia drama...

but those are some of the veteran actors I was talking about - all of them f***** fantastic acting...but I understand if it's not your thing...

Theb she'll never come here :smirks2:

    Is she on MyDramaList site?

Yes, Journey of a Flower is a good drama. I remember watching it like 4 years ago and liking it.:claps:

I'll keep it on my plan to watch list, maybe I'll get to it one day. :oks:

  • nope she's very chinese chinese so maybe on weibo and some chinese sites??? lol

  • I've been meaning to ask...I can't remember where you're from but obviously you aren't chinese my friend

does watching something like Nirvana in Fire which is very complicated storyline (even for me being Chinese) difficult for you? like the nuances of Chinese history and rules of court and whatnot?

I did drop the drama after the first ep bcoz it was kinda confusing at first but picked it up again bcoz it was still interesting.

It was my first ever historical drama, I remember binge watching it and it became one of my most fav drama ever. I love everything about it, the plot was great, the actors were great, only disappointing thing was the last ep but rest was amazing.

your first? wow...I would not recommend that for someone's first period drama lol

what I meant was more of the rules of the court stuff like why is a prince the next in line or why someone isn't next in line and the intricacies of the rules of court and the various palace officials and their roles...did that ever give you trouble or did you figure it out yourself?

Yup, I had prejudice towards historical dramas, before NIF I didn't watch any Korean historical drama either so it was my very first.

It took a while to understand but as the story moved forward it cleared the doubts as well. Actually I don't exactly remember now if I had any trouble, it's been a long time since I watched it, though I do go back to it once in a while.

it's something that always interested me especially for non-Chinese fans of period dramas

I've always wondered if the learning curve is too steep sometimes like when the Chinese talk about slaves they aren't the in chain lockup work on the farm type slaves or when they talk about rules of court and so forth I've wondered if it's offputting for some people but it's good that you got past all that...
