The kpop group whose concept is mental illness (Thoughts?)

  • I can see where groups are coming from to write songs about mental health as I suffer myself. It's good that they're promoting awareness through music. I tell you the ignorance surrounding anxiety makes me so mad.

  • And the book was 1984 written based on Nazi Germany.

The statement explains that the song is inspired by George Orwell’s book “1984” and states, “It has absolutely nothing to do with actual historical events.” The agency continues, “We sincerely apologize to everyone in Korea and abroad for not paying attention to the use of controversial content. We take full responsibility for the controversy that has arisen, and we apologize again to the many people who were offended.” The agency adds that it will be making adjustments to the controversial portions of the song’s lyrics.

C9 Entertainment further states that the music video and costume for the song does not represent real historical events and uses “the setting and lines of ‘1984’ as a motif, and there is no connection with actual events, people, or groups.”

The full statement is provided in English below:

I read a brief synopsis of the book i did not get any german/nazi references from it. I'm not going to tell people how to feel and not to feel, but C6 made changes and i think it was the right step so that it would not upset people going forward, hopefully the company's writers, going forward will be more mindful of the lryics. They already redid the lyrics and reuploaded the video and are re-rcording the changes, that's more than saying that's not what this is about get over it. so i give them credit.

  • How do I say what I really think about this. So, I have an anxiety disorder. When their first album was released I felt inclined to check them out just because of the title. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it. If you read their lyrics then you'll understand why the album is titled the way it is. I'm not even a fan of theirs, I personally just don't think it's that serious.

    both of these,

and no one can tell ME how to feel, i suffer from SEVERAL mental health issues at the same time. I'm not offended, it's not that deep.

  • The optics look bad at first glance, but it matters more what their intentions are, the members' personal experience, and how much creative input the members have.

Romanticization of mental health issues is always a problem; sometimes even those who suffer take part in it. It's hard to say what would be a correct way to do it, especially when a lot of things feel so manufactured and overly contrived in K-pop. I think, at the end of the day, it can't be too bad unless they're glorifying unhealthy coping mechanisms. As far as we know, it doesn't look like they're glorifying anything bad.

  • I went to school in the US and I don't remember learning about crystal night. It must be in the EU educational system?

Edit: I probably learned about it as "Kristallnacht" and then forgot the literal translation is "crystal night."

Edited once, last by Poetry ().

  • My primary complaint is that the titles really don't make any sense if you think about what those diagnoses mean. It's fine if you wanna talk about anxiety or depression or whatever but at least be a little more accurate with the words you're using.
