Do kfans even exist anymore?
How come groups today can't sell 1 million albums within Korea?

Physical sales are a dying market that only kpop fans care about and south korea is a relatively small country. Plus they fully embraced internet and by consequence streaming before almost any country

Most groups have bigger international fanbase than korean fanbase

Only groups with bigger fandoms buy albums to support their idols & of course collect photocards. We mostly listen to Spotify or Itunes if ur an international fans. This the reason why it’s mostly boy groups who sell more. When the touring starts , those who have bigger fandom can sell more concert tickets. Physical sales ( if ur selling at least 500k per album) and concerts are the biggest source of income for idols. I honestly think it is better to have bigger fandom than GP support coz GP esp in SK are more fickle-minded . Loyal fanbases will always be supportive most of the time.
Also, i dont get the obsession with k digital streaming of some old kpoppies. SK is a small country , only placing 8th ( or 7?) for top 10 music industry. Labels nowadays are targeting international market than focusing in SK esp for BGs. Look at their obsession in BB & Spotify streams, i tunes sales around the globe. Releasing Japanese & even English songs. Targets are changing & global popularity are becoming a trend.

Within Korea? Korea a relatively small country.
To put it in perspective, SK is only slightly larger than the state of California, population wise.
They have 50 million people, that's why you see labels targeting the market next door in Japan so much, with 125 million people. The US with 300 million.
That's why local charts like Melon is losing its relevance among labels who are targeting bigger markets. Melon having a 32% marketshare (and shrinking) of a country that's relatively smaller compared to larger music markets...there's just more money to be made outside Korea...touring etc.

then to my knowledge the amount of current groups that have sold >1m exceed the non-current groups???
or am I missing something? lol
yes, u are correct. More grps are selling millions in the past 2 yrs. 2 from 4th Gen. Technically, in S.Korea as long as it’s shipped from Korea , it’s Korean Sales ( Gaon) regardless of the country u ship it to

is that stat listed anywhere?
like sales specifically within South Korea? I've never seen it before

Yes, I think Gaon data will show u where those albums were shipped. I think i saw that data before. Mostly Japan, SEA countries, US , some country in Europe and SK still part of top 10 for Enhypen. I dont have the link anymore but ig it can be searched. Most 4th gen BGs will probably have the same location of shipments. Just note that the SK location can also be shipped to another country if u are a reseller with SK address esp for grp orders since it’s cheaper. I prefer weverse shop though even if sf is ridiculous since it’s way faster than grp orders.
