Melon accounts for 32% of of the marketshare of streaming in SK and hemorrhaging users daily and has been the last 5 years. All other major platforms put together cumulatively make up about 50%.
At best, only about 10 million people use Melon anymore. To reach number 1 it takes, probably, 1-3 million ULs?
I think it's not that SK doesn't care about bgs, it's that labels don't care about Melon anymore. Success isn't defined by who those specific 3 million people are listening to anymore.
Money drives things now. You may never chart in the top 100 and still make more money than (certainly solo acts) that routinely hit number 1 on Melon.
As long as you have a good-sized fandom inside or outside SK, you're successful based on the new metrics.
It's not 2012 anymore, Melon has been losing its relevance for a few years now.
But it's certainly still a nice achievement if you do. But there are more platforms that seem to be more important to labels now than Melon.
