  • I'm not sure on this. The girls are great performers for sure and the MV was top notch but the music is a little bit too westernized for my taste. It's not that it is in English but the beats and overlaying sound track just scream America on it. I think if your into western music you might love this but as I'm not into westernized music I'm not vibing with it.

  • I'm not a fan of atonal/un-melodious music and the music video production is pretty cheap for K-pop standard. Need to see more of the choreography to judge it. Some members did not look as pretty as in photo.

  • Why would they debut with a complete English song? So they don’t care about gaining much of a Japanese domestic fanbase where like majority of the money will be coming in? 🤣

  • I love the song but it seems risky to debut with an all engish track to me at least

The comments on their MV is about 20:1 with English dominating over Japanese comments so that doesn't bode well for the song in Japan right now.

  • another flop group! YG where is baemon? where are they? because surely this cannot be your grand new girl group? singing in english? fight back? I thought this was a JPOP group? so much for that! flop mv and flop song. looks like YG is on a flop streak! first with treasure and now with this! hope my blackpink girlies stay safe!

You do realize YG said this group isn't related to them.

The girl group is called XG and will debut sometime in 2022! The group is a collaboration project between South Korea and Japan's Avex.

  • im familiar with faky not the other two though.

i know avex is connected, but i still don't know how hands on they are.

lots of acts that sign to avex are still managed by their original companies. i believe sometimes avex only helps with resources, distribution, etc

  • This song is unfortunately a mixed bag for me and underwhelming. As a fan and one who was looking forward to them, I wished they had japanese lines.

You must have missed the discussion on Hikaru's appearance.

You know Ezaki Hikaru, right? She was validated as Avex' trainee on Girls Planet 999. Hikaru was visible on this XG video (at 0:20). So, Avex definitely is not simply the distributor and taking part in the recruiting at very least.

i don't know if her being an avex trainee means avex recruited her to this group or not.

there's actually no official mention of avex in the production of the group. i don't even see avex mentioned on the xgalx website.

And this is where they messed up lol. Using yg as media play is going to backfire in the long run. You don’t know how many people still believe that they’re a kpop group under yge lmao That’s where all of the non Japanese people are coming from. They’re not going to be able to chart or get featured on Japanese tv since the Japanese aren’t really interested in groups like them or have a Japanese song to get them familiar with the gp. Not even kpop groups aimed at international markets debut with an entire English album or title track as they know they need domestic support to be able do keep them afloat until they can officially target out of Korea. Apparently, girlies aren’t even in Japan but SK right now so how are they going promote on Japanese music shows? 🤣 Their company didn’t think this through.

  • the song is a bop but feels very "kpop group catering to west"!! Also if they want to secure the Japanese Market, they need to cater to Japanese gp.

Which they didn’t do which was stupid on their company’s part lol Imagine ditching the second largest market for the American market that doesn’t even generally pay asian groups much attention. They have like little to no fandom or presence in Japan right now even with the yg media play. Not smart.

  • Harv has a quirky sounding rap voice. I had to listen to her part a few times because it sounds so different than usual.

Something about the dance energy of this group pulls up Exile Girls in the back of my mind with more Hip-Hop production savvy.

Actually, English songs occasionally are charted. This is very odd but, the chance is not 0 for sure. Even Korean song, which is even less comprehensible, has a sizable market. Not that I disagree they should have debuted in Japanese and prioritized domestic market.

You forgot "On the Ground" existed.

If Twice or Seventeen can promote on Japanese music shows remotely, XG can too.

If I were Avex executive, I rather invested into a mid-sized K-pop agency and made a Korean speaking group half of whose members were Japanese to materialize my global expansion dream.

Avex can possibly make a K-pop Japanese group yet, that group is meant to be cut off Korean media platforms. Just to be able to regularly promote on M Countdown and Music Bank will skyrocket its international reach.

  • Well yeah english songs do occasionally chart but xg’s company has no presence in Japan what so ever as they’re a new company. They don’t have any acts to draw a fandom from. And no, yge has nothing to do with them. Media playing using yge’s name to garner up a fanbase could get them into trouble lol It’s bad enough kpoppies were so slow that they automatically assumed they were baemon which was where like 90% of the attention is continuing to come from.

Even if rose did release otg, she didn’t debut in a group where the title track was a complete English song which is unheard of in kpop as the Korean market is always the first priority despite kpoppies trying to say otherwise lol

Of course xg can promote in Japan as they’re a Japanese group. Thing is, English songs aren’t in high demand in Japan and xg’s concept and music choice doesn’t fit the trending popular female girl groups. There are literally no other groups remotely similar to them that are relevant.

Xg, like jo1, ini, and niziu is supposed to be a localized jk/western group based solely in Japan. They won’t regularly be promoting in Korea like your average kpop group as they simply aren’t one and shouldn’t be expected to either. Lots of foreign acts need to be invited and approved to appear on Korean music shows. It isn’t that simple. And mcountdown and music bank are literally Korean media platforms centered around music lol.

  • XG's company is basically Avex, which surely is not new and has enough presence in Japan to promote the group.

XG is not a Korean group and Japanese music industry works differently.

Do you know Black Pink is popular in Japan? And, to me, XG looks and sounds like an imitation of Black Pink.

And, obviously, none of these groups is that popular oversea. So, my assumption stands.

  • I don't know how to feel about this song :whatr:

It's not bad but I would prefer if it was in Japanese and the chorus is meh.

It really wasn’t worth all the hype people were giving it. I mean like 99% of it came from the belief that they were yg’s new gg anyways lol

  • I don't know how to feel about this song :whatr:

It's not bad but I would prefer if it was in Japanese and the chorus is meh.

The chorus was simply rapping "keep you on your tippy toes. ta ta ta ta ta" on repeat over the beat. The music was kinda empty, opposite to usual K-pop song where so much going on at once musical wise.

I suppose some melody or heavier music will give a stronger chorus.

Dance wise, I wonder if the choreographer is Korean. It looks more Japanese with all members doing the same move most of the time and the formation looks simpler. I wanna see more of it but no performance video has been available.

I heard the producers and choreographer are Korean.

  • I'm not a fan of atonal/un-melodious music and the music video production is pretty cheap for K-pop standard. Need to see more of the choreography to judge it. Some members did not look as pretty as in photo.

  • Half true. I saw a video saying the producer was an American team and the choreo was Choi Hyojin (1mil dance's?).

Koreans participated in the music production as well. A Korean production team also made the mv. The company isn’t even located in Japan. This is technically just your average kpop girl crush gg but with Japanese members like niziu. Japan doesn’t have much to do with if at all with the creation of this group as majority of the members trained in Korea. Strange how that’s becoming the trend now with Korean companies.
