    Longevity apart,

IU has appeared 55 times in the top 100 of Gaon Year End Digital charts - features included.

BTS comes next with 31, so have a lot to catch up.

  • I have all this data, but it's in a larger spreadsheet.

    투모로우바이투게더 방탄
    레드벨벳엑소샤이니에이티즈

  • So, If only the senior singer, kpop biggest threat, hadnt released so many songs last year TTN would still be in top 100.

Possibly. But many more factors go into it.

    Difficult to isolate one.

She got what 13 songs, then there are still 87 songs more responsible for pushing TTN out of 100 or rather 89 since it is 102.

  • Yes, I got all of YEC as well. But as Kreatin points out. YEC isn't the best chart, since it doesn't compensate for when in the year the song was released.

how does that tie in to performance? a song released in january can still have terrible longevity

Yes. But let's take 2021 itself and IU Celebrity had the best chance and Winter Sleep the least, though they are from the same artist.

I am not saying YEC isn't useful, but it is not as accurate as Weekly.

  • Yes, BTS and IU are amazing

Interesting to note that other kpop groups only appear in 2 years or below category

K-pop idol groups overall occupy less of these 1200 songs.

    Soloists and non-kpop dominate.

Though BTS has the leader, still k-pop groups including BTS do less well.

IU - depends on whether she is included in k-pop or not, can make a lot of difference.

But yes among k-pop groups, Bangtan is the best

  • Spring day has never left the Weekly top 100 since its release, it has charted all of the 254 weeks.

So even if TTN had made it into YEC 100 this year, Spring Day still takes the honours, because TTN has slipped few times on the Weekly, it is at 168 weeks out of 249 Weeks since release.

    It's actually 257 weeks.

  • For me the most impressive thing about Spring day is how it survived into the top 100 even during BTS' hiatus.

I was quite sceptical regarding Spring day's charting for a while, because it was always affected by BTS' comebacks. If I'm not wrong right before DNA was released it was charting in the 60s or 70s, and since then every time BTS had a comeback it rose again to the 30s and then started falling from there until their next comeback. To me, it was always a reflection of BTS' status in Korea, more than the success of the song itself (even though that BTS status was indeed reflected in Spring day because back then it was their biggest song in Korea).

However now that even during BTS hiatus it has stayed in the top 100 I think it's pretty much undeniable it's one of the biggest songs of the century in Korea. In my books, regarding BTS' songs ,I think Dynamite is bigger even though it's never going to catch up Spring day in terms of longevity numbers, but I guess it might be an unpopular opinion.
