Am I the only old kpop fan that doesn't give a damn about the old gens?

  • I'm just not impressed with something just because it's new and shiny.

SM box videos from 2nd gen carry way more charm and atmosphere then all this new CGI bullshit.

As far as music goes 2nd gen actually sounds like music. It had a structure or foundation. New stuff is all over the place and makes no damn sense.

I would argue 2nd gen is where some of the worst autotuned kpop songs of all time reside

  • 5 years from now, people are going to say the same thing about 3rd gen. What we think that look cool today will look cringe in a couple years. Then the "outdated retro vibe" from 2nd gen will look cool. People always like to skip a generation, like how the 90s aesthetic are coming back when just 7-8 years ago, it was seen as tacky af.

People taste change. Kpop mv in 2nd gen was also seen as well produced by neighboring countries where Hallyu was growing its influence at the time.

You have a point but not every single 2nd gen MVs should be put on a pedestal, people are just picking 5-10 good MVs from the old and to compare to some of the worst of 4th gen MVs to make them look slightly better than it should be. I have watched some of the nugu groups' MVs from 2nd gen and oh boy they didnt age well at all. Imo, while there are some really good one from older gen, if you were to pick any random MVs from any gens, the newest gen MVs will always be more well produced and looks absolutely stunning

Not everything of anything is all good and rainbow. Ofc when people talk about the good of the past, they actually talk about the good stuff of the past. Why we gotta waste our braincells on the bad ones? That will be applicable to all generations. Not everything anyone produce is going to be a slam-dunk in any generation. That is just statistically impossible.

I never understood the hate for SM box videos, they clearly were supposed to emphasize the dance as a key focus of the song and they did so well, also those boxes were anything but cheap, like look at the box in Sexy Free and Single or most fx mvs it looks so futuristic or for a gg example electric shock.

The hate for the box was because it was a consistent low effort thing. It’s not the box itself - it just felt low effort when its similar artist after artist. Esp when other “poorer” or lesser companies were able to mix it up for their own artist by experimenting with other video types.

  • I mean, it's the same story. Younger people tend to like the more current trends. When I say young, I am talking teenagers in this world where 18 years olds have no idea what the world was like without cell phones or the internet.

And people who grew-up with 2nd gen tend to prefer that.

Just like how back in the day, parents thought rock music was just noise. Now the old heads love rock, and think rap is incoherent (which most of it is lmao) and pop is soulless. Everything ages, dies, and is reborn.

  • Old MVs have outdated retro vibes, 144p quality vids, less diverse makeups, boring props and bad edits

Never mind BP, rookies from non Big3 companies like Purple Kiss even have more stunning debut MVs than majority of old gen MVs. The gateway to kpop for everyone is always about the MVs so obviously those take my attention the most.

    Not when T-ARA exists.

  • 2nd gen has their own ✨ magic ✨ that goes beyond mv quality lmao

At that time this is what MV looked like. In few years 4th gen videos will also look outdated.

Also Gee and The Boys and even I got a boy >>>>
