many idols that are debuting younger than 16 likely have stage parents that want them to be famous and strongly influenced their decisions to be idols/celebs asap instead of finishing up hs at least. the truth is it is grossly underestimated how many of those types of parents there are when it comes to young kpop idols in comparison to say the child acting industry in the west. im sure a lot of these idols do genuinely enjoy performing, but its not many young people actually understand what it is actually like in these industries until the dip their toes in. its up to their parents to help them understand more about what they're getting into and to protect and support them. and i honestly think anyone debuting at 13 is being failed.

There's been a lot of backlash against underage idols in the industry. Particularly from ifans who like to baby them and say "kIdZ uNdEr 18 sHoUlDnT bE iDoLs". Yet contestants in My Teenage Girls and other U18 idols have proven they are more than capable to perform as professional idols. These two trainees from MTG killed this Monster cover and got 4/4 score from the judges. Even Irene/Seulgi could learn a thing or two from their acting and facial expressions.

Obviously since they are still underage they should be protected and have more reasonable schedules, yet they can still pursue their dreams and earn a living. Unfortunately this generation that claims to stand for equality and tolerance are so openly hostile to people older and younger than them. It's open season against older fans, saying a lot of insults against them. And they want to push underage idols aside. It's no surprise, since most ifans are in their late teens/20s, so they discriminate against other ages.
i dont think you realise why people don't want underage idols to debut....

Huh? No one is saying they aren't talented, people are worried that a young teen who is still dealing with the hormonal fluctuations of puberty won't be mentally prepared for all that scrutiny, especially on her body. That's not ageist. Look at all the examples of people bashing young teen idols as they naturally gain weight, it's not a healthy environment.
Goo Hara and Sulli both debuted as minors, I wonder if their mental health would have been better if they had been able to debut at a more mature age when they were more sure of themselves.
