which is better for a group?

so it seems like there's patterns that a lot of groups follow...

1. instant success at debut but mostly plateau

2. have a huge hit after debut, skyrocket into success, have a slow decline towards the end (however long that decline lasts varies)

3. do average to pretty good for most of their career, have a big hit long after debut, and see a large amount of success towards the end of their time as a group

and i guess

4. do okay as a group but never have a lot of success, disband quietly

but this isn't about those groups.

in terms of success as a group, what do you think is better? having a big hit and lots of success later on in a career, or hitting high peaks right in the beginning and seeing a slow decline?

is peak or longevity more important?
