is it too late for twice solo careers?

  • I mean you could probably argue the individual members of Twice have had solo opportunities too if you look at each members' schedules over the past 8 years. I think the main difference is the talent. Taeyeon is just one of the best girl group vocalists of all time, so people wanted to hear her voice only and she debuted STRONG. Twice have never been known for their vocals, in fact they're often dragged for it, so the public would kinda have low expectations and not really care as much. I still think enough ONCEs would support any member going solo.

Twice's solo endeavours are not comparable to Taeyeon's at all, ignoring the fact that she was doing it when SNSD were at the peak of their powers in SK. Twice are finally taking small steps after.

If Twice were doing subunits and solo work when they were at their peak then it would be a different story. Twice would be doing it too late at this point.

  • It seems like companies want to make as much money off of a group for as long as possible before letting them try solo activities, blackpink being an exception, but I'm sure jyp would support each member trying it out if they wanted to. I would guess that most members would only have mild success though, similar to snsd Yuri or Hyoyeon. Maybe Nayeon could pull off a decent solo career. She has solid vocal and dance abilities, and visuals that are appreciated in SK.

I think people are being a little bit overdramatic about twice's downfall though. If they come back with a more exciting song they'll be back on top.

  • Honestly I don't think it's ever too late to start a solo career (unless we, of course, are talking about Twice members starting it in 30 years), imo it's all going down to marketing, promotions and a song itself. You don't know the future and don't know how their solo debut will turn out, everything can happen.

  • :/ now that korea has lost their interest in twice, do you think it's too late to start a solo career?

It depends on the song. Like I love Yuri but her SNSD solo debut was too late. I think Chaeyoung could go solo but she probably sadly won't have enough "selling power" to get the first solo -- probably Nayeon tbh.

I feel like Jeongyeon deserves a solo when she is okay with it -- I really want to hear her musicality -- which I can't really hear as much in Twice songs.

OFC I'm always here for a Jihyo solo too -- she may go the Luna way with a dance track and I would LOVE THAT.

I mean it all depends on the type of music, if Joy got a solo, Mina may as well with a citypop track but I'm quite sure a foreign member won't get to go solo yet. Mina is also very quiet and shy by herself so I don't know if she's the type to feel comfortable solo. Not everyone needs a solo.

  • Eh. Tzuyu has sold out dozens off stuff by being seen next to it. Her magazine price had to be hiked due to extra demand that the company had to hire 3rd party to help out. Each version sold out 12 or 13 times and the total sales was well over 50-60k if I'm not wrong. This is for the member who didn't even have a melody project until 6 years into her career.

Satzu were #1 and #2 most popular female idols in the army poll racing ahead idols with promotions in 2019. Nayeon is an it girl by all means and has also sold out stuff on a national scale. I think her and jeongyeon made it to Gallup for 3 consecutive years. Nayeon and tzuyu topped different year if I'm not wrong.

The girls have strong individual fanbases even back in 2019 when their "declining" accusations were going on. A solo music career kinda depends if they even want to stay with the company or not, let alone pursue a solo career. For sales and success there is most definitely demand.

People had the same qualms about Suzy and she had a hit. So ig only time will tell.
