I think people have different standards for top girlgroups vs solos like Somi (or Jessi) who need promos to get viral songs, because they don't have a long discography of hits or a big fanbase to help with the hype the first days of release

It's the same people who would say something about Hwasa before Maria then boom! she got two big hits last year, as solo and as collab. Soloists usually need some time to rise on the charts, especially the ones with small fanbases and short careers

She is rising slowly but steadily again. I am glad for her, XOXO is my favorite Somi song.

She deserves it, Somi is truly hardworking

As expected, Somi is an artist with few stans but excellent (the best, imo) promotional skills.

Fast peaks require stans, and Somi has far fewer stans than I think most people assume.

Somi's fandom is almost entirely casual (because she released so little content since debuting, even less than BP). Just compare her insta following (11.7M) to her stan-twitter following (318K). Although, I've noticed that Somi is starting to attract more stans now that she is releasing content more regularly.

Really, Somi has the greatest potential to attract stans out of the female soloists because she is so likeable and entertaining outside of music, but she would actually have to release more content like 'I Am Somi' for that. Season two is coming, so that will help.
