Another new recording - Magic Carpet Ride. This is an r&b flavored ballad. R&B runs through all of NCT’s work and their b-sides are dominated by it, particularly as the group gets older.

I was about to make a thread about this (with a more controversial title, like why are NCT 127 better than your faves for example)

Imagine having all this talent and this plethora of distinct and varied vocal tones and styles? The contrast between vocals like Taeil and Doyoung in one side and Yuta and Jaehyun in another and then Haechan in his own dimension is simply crazy.

Doyoung's 3 minute long part at around the 18 minute mark is what gives magic carpet ride its magic, that was incredibly beautiful and insightful like wow I had no idea Doyoung was responsible for ALL OF THAT.

and then of course there's Taeyong being too wholesome and good

Hahaha. Your controversial thread would probably get more hits than my “hey check out NCT’s raw vocals” threads but I’ll keep posting them because I know there are a number of folks on here always looking to discover new music and maybe this will help them explore and find a new song.

While I enjoy all the sides of 127’s music, I think it’s completely possible to just be into their r&b side, the same way I’m mostly only about the velvet side of Red Velvet.

These behind the scenes vids have also been really interesting to me in understanding the way SM uses vocals in tracks to create that lush and distinctive vocal sound.
