are aespas achievments unusual for a rookie group?

Not really about the physical sells part: ses and and SNSD had good sales, SNSD even won't a daesang for it, it's more FX and RV not doing as well compared to GG's of their gen

Actually I thought f(x) also sold more than Wonder Girls and miss A?

yeah but it happened nearly a decade ago

That makes sense, thanks.
Well your thread was pretty clear and the question was direct at least to me

For a big3 group no.
they are doing better then previous SM rookies tho,
rookie is the first 2 years but il try to keep it as close to 1 year as possible. all the songs I list you can google achievements, they were all huge
heres a list
TWICE - Cheer up and TT
BLACKPINK - Whistle, PWF, and AAIYL
theres a couple more, but yea.

For Big 3 girl groups? Not unusual, but maybe for SM.
RV's debut was not as popular as expected.
In *2nd* Gen, tho? 2NE1's monster rookie-dom was (and honestly is still) unchallenged & commonly known as "The Best Most Iconic KPOP Debut Ever".
2NE1's "Fire" which completely smashed all records & previous conceptions of what Korean girl groups (& their concepts) could be, that they could be fierce, powerful & badass.
2NE1 were the Inventors of "girl crush" concept in KPOP. which was previously dominated by SNSD's cute image in "Gee". 2NE1 Won #1 on a music show w/their 2nd live performance (or similar) honestly.

SNSD AND SES were huge physical sellers of their gens. SNSD is in fact a heavy outlier that they were able to surpass and win daesang against top boy groups of their era.

Like i said after this reply (maybe my answer is not clear), it has been nearly a decade since sm gg become huge physical sellers finally aespa followed their path

Aespa's achievement is impressive, but is it something new? NO
1) 2ne1 debut with 2 back to back hit, with the second song I dont care winning SOTY
2) Miss A won SOTY too with debut
3) BP's debut Whistle achieved PAK and was the fastest to win music show (at that time)
4) Twice's first comeback with Cheer Up literally made them the NGG.
So in comparison, what aespa achieved seems achieveable (no intention of undermining them) but for SM groups, i think it is very good. For SM groups, public tends to take some time to warm up to them, like f(x), red velvet and EXO didnt become popular with the general public till their 3rd or 4th releases. So yes, aespa is somehow in line (3rd release Next level or 2nd if dont count Forever). Red velvet garnered traction with Ice cream cake (4th song)

As people have mentioned it's unusual for SM rookies more than anything else.
Twice's first year had the biggest pop song in SK and the biggest kpop song in Japan. Their album also sold 3 times more than the next girl group.
BP had their PAK on debut and international success.
2NE1 had a huge start in terms of digital hits.

Unusual for SM rookies yea, but also it’s a feat that aespa doesn’t need that 4th gen qualifier on their names to compete on some of the schievements set by their legendary sunbaes.
