Have any Chinese K-pop idols ever re-signed with their Korean label? Also, do you think it is a bad idea for Korean companies to debut multiple Chinese idols?

Depends on the company. SM is probably the worst for Chinese idols by far. I don't blame any of them for leaving that company with the way they were treated. I'm saying this as a huge Winwin fan, but I hope Winwin is the next Chinese idol to leave SM. They literally act like Winwin doesn't exist.

every chinese idol has successful following their initial stint in Korea (save for Cao Lu from fiestar, if my memory is correct)

Like why won’t they go for Vietnam? Like Vietnam is technically SEA geographically but they’re in the same boat as East Asia from my understanding. Plus Vietnam is way way tamer than China on every level. I don’t know a company other than SM (sus since they treat china lines bad) that has food relations with China.

With Hanbin I hope that he’ll help with the breakthrough of Viet Idols the way Nickhun did for Thai (at least that’s what im understanding from 2nd gen, didnt know much bout 2pm).

I can’t help but have a slight dislike about the concept of chinese idols on only 1 basis, politics involving the CCP. That can really hurt their image in Korea and they’re forced to do political shit. it’s completely understandable in Korea why they dislike it when chinese idols support the ccp but it’s expected for every Chinese born Chinese idol, and sometimes HK/Taiwan too considering Jackson/Lai Guanlin did it even though they’re not from China.

So essentially, lets try Viet idols. Rooting for Big Hit’s Hanbin.

Yeah... The way SM treats Winwin is horrible. He barely gets any lines in any songs, and he basically got removed from 127, without any warning or notice that he was being removed from the group. Things are a little better for him in WayV, but he still lacks lines in songs compared to the other members, except for maybe Hendery, who has a comparable amount.

Yes, Fei renewed her contract with JYP in 2016, but left after it expired in late 2018 to persue a career in China

Fx Victoria is still signed with SM under different terms that is not the same as her old contract. If you go to SM’s website she’s under their actor page. Since sm gave her own studio in China to manage her own activities while she was working full time over there like Lay and Zhoumi when China-Korea political issues were on the rise, they probably negotiated a contract that would be beneficial for both parties after her 2nd contract renewal expired. I think Victoria’s studio is a subsidiary under sm. So her main management company now is under Victoria Studio and not sm.

How do you know they’re forced to do political shit? Do you have any evidence? It's sick to bring up politics every time when talking about Chinese idols. Why do they need to care about those shallow kpop fans? They are free to express their thoughts.

easy, chinese money, Vietnam doesn't give the money they want, China does, there are groups out there selling from 200k to even 500k physical sales from China alone, no company will start to think about a small political thing when the money are rolling. China has a huge industry and a lot of population, even getting a small fanbase in China is helpful.

SM has a rotten industry with Chinese idols, no doubt, but I feel like there’s a certain narrow filter people look at here. Yes, Winwin famously has minimal lines, but SM has no qualms about pushing the hell out of Lucas and has been giving a bigger push to not only Xiaojun, but the rest of WayV with the NCT 2020 event. (FWIW, while I like Winwin, there are better rappers in the group so I get why he wasn’t heavily utilized in 127, honestly. The WayV split was handled horribly, although he seems to have thrived in that group, I think partly because he’s not struggling with his Korean with them.)

To answer the original question, this is a business. The Chinese artists (potentially) gain a larger platform to spring into a strong Chinese career and the Kpop companies reach a wider base, so I get it from the business angle. Although fans’ hearts get hurt, Chinese members leaving doesn’t necessarily hurt business, so they’ll keep adding them to the mix.

SM's promotions in NCT are bad in general putside a few of their faves, i have no idea why they debuted a entire chinese unit when they are bad promoted and they are gonna run as fast as they can, Winwin should definitely run, he's a doll for sm, just exist.

I looked up multiple sources online and while China sells a lot, countries like Japan, Thailand, Taiwan sell more but I don’t know how trustworthy that is, but still Philippines, Taiwan, and Malaysia are right behind...apparently UAE actuals spends the most but the market is really small.

Maybe it’s because of Chinas population, but with chinas upcoming idol industry they’ll probably be less reliable in the future.

I always find that when people talk about Chinese money they mean the potential. Not just what is selling now but also what they can in the future. I find Chinese music scene quite small and underdeveloped for the population that size with their amount of purchase power. So I think the world and Kpop included want in on Chinese money because they want the early advantage. Their music scene especially idols are quite underdeveloped compared to Korea and Japan, although they are growing rapidly these past 2 years. The potential to make A LOT now and in the future is limitless.
