It's hard to currently chart well on Melon - short explanation

  • Hmmm..

I'd say its harder to chart well on it compared to the old old realtime (pre July 2020 one)

    But it's easier than 24Hits.

What this one allows is essentially songs that wouldn't chart or chart as high on 24hits, to chart a little bit higher giving them more exposure, allowing for more ULs to put them higher on the daily chart. However, whether those ULs stay or not is dependent on the song obviously. You have groups like NCT whose fandom can get them to around Top 10 on Melon Top 100 but peaks in the 30s on Melon daily... however if they had released under 24hits, its likely their melon daily peak could have been lower since Top 100 allowed them to have more exposure and more ULs.

  • So Where's the short explanation?

ah so you don't understand it

    then simple math

    15 songs in top 50

    this gives you just 30%

ain't it obvious that with those numbers it already gave you a HINT that Koreans listen to trot/ost/soloists/foreign artists more nowadays? it was already within those numbers...

  • The new melon isn’t really THAT fandom driven. Old old melon WAS fandom driven. What’s happening on new melon is that it can boost ur song spots if you have fandom, that makes the chart MOVE and therefore it’s a pseudo-recommendation to people who only checks out, like, top 10-20. That said, you still need quite a huge chunk of Daily ULs and hourly ULs to chart on it.

Unlike old old melon that can have #1 songs whose UL won’t even be inside the top 100 daily.

Actually pretty much an established fact even before the reforms. Few idol songs make impact on SK gen public.

yeah but not so long ago on 24Hits before reform there was time when in top 10 we had only IU, BTS, Brave Girls, and Oh My Girl songs and only Justin Bieber made it to top 10 from all other artists

there was even time when it was about 14-15 songs in top 20...

Last I checked, Sticker is about 60 places higher on top 100 than 24hits, I think the difference illustrates the fandom power pretty well for this current chart
