in most chinese or oriental grocery stores should have them...(well at least where I am)
We're Viet, so yes. I only like the completely smooth fillings, though. No seeds or salted eggs for me...

I'm really bad at keeping track of Asian desserts/snacks lol. I assume the smooth fillings are either bean or root vegetables.
Honestly, I'd rather just eat "banh bia/pia," which is a take on the "Suzhou style mooncake" (according to Wikipedia), over regular mooncakes.
I just had one and it was not bad. It was filled with red bean though, and I'm not the biggest fan of red bean.
I saw a matcha cheese lava version that sounded good though. I'm considering trying it.
I've never had one.

yeah there's all sorts of fillings - it really just depends on what you like...
Omg one of my friends from hs made me a pack of red bean mooncakes once and I loved them
After that I tried salted egg ones, lotus, other bean types and more ~ Liked them all
yeah there's all sorts of fillings - it really just depends on what you like...
Yeah my local Asian grocery store has the most obscene amount of mooncakes right now. I don't even know how many options there are because it's overwhelming. They're even selling small boxes for $200

yeah they are not cheap!!! $200?????? for how many...here in Australia it's around $50 for 4...
but if you want cheaper..wait till after today (or whenever 21 September 2021 is for you) since tonight is the mid autumn night so after today it generally will get cheaper...
selfmate what is this flavor?
purely on that diagram I think it's lotus filling with salted duck egg...
have you had salted duck egg before?
Yes but I'm not really a fan. It's alright I guess?

The $200 (they're on sale now for $170 lol) ones were in a box around the size of a regular box of chocolate for Christmas/Valentine's Day. This grocery store sells a lot of premium stuff though (like ridiculously priced imported fruit) along with their normal priced stuff. They do have individual options for like $5-ish each. I'll definitely try checking them out in a couple days.
These things are super yum as well:
Display MoreI like these combos:
-Lotus seed paste alone
-Lotus seed paste with salted egg yolk
-Shredded coconut with crushed peanuts
I also like the mooncakes with mochi shell rather than the baked shell:
the snow ones are really good as well but I just like mooncakes...my wife says i have a sweet tooth lol
No, it doesn't look like something I'd fancy and it probably isn't vegetarian or vegan.

those really expensive premium ones...yeah lol
sometimes the $5 ones are just as good but it really depends on individual quality
what are some of the expensive imported fruit?

I've had salted duck egg before. Taste is fine, but I've always found it a bit too grainy.
I also tried these chips, but they ended up not doing it for me, so I've decided I might not be a big salted egg fan.

it can be quite rich and thick...(I think that's the word)
yeah they are made from diary and eggs...

Sometimes I take pics of the crazy expensive ones they have lol
yeah I guess it's because those fruits are imported...
sometimes certain fruits can get really expensive here as well
I also found a pic I took of one of the $100 boxes of mooncakes before they started selling the $200 ones. Now this seems like a steal in comparison.
Not yet but I'm willing to try one.

but but aren't you part taiwanese?
are you celebrating mid autumn festival tonight (or whenever it is your time???)
No I haven't
Yes.
Straight lotus filling without salted egg ones are good to go with Chinese tea.
Yes! I actually like them
