I mean some people (younger annoying Stan twt fans) think groups like NCT and aespa popped up out of no where in SM in terms of theme and concept.
But if you go back SM has always had this theme with their groups look at SNSD's name and super junior or Shinee and f(x) and of course EXO. SM has always had this grand scheme larger than life idea with their groups and giving them unique concepts.
Tbh idk if I'll call it larger than life but if you find the meaning of every SM groups name since suju it will give some very deep explanation.
TL;DR SM always been on that weird shit aespa and nct aren't new. 
I love Cake so it make sense to me that I fan of food related girl group
