Tbh i don't know neither understand what happened with MMM. They were a top group, but somehow their group cb didn't do well, at least they are successful as soloists with Hwasa being at the top.
Ua It weird and honestly disappointed see their chart performance drop like that.

why didn't they comeback last year though...
They did with aya. Which was a year after hip but it seem really bland for some reason..... Aya didn't have much digtal success, it actual fell pretty fast.. dinga did okay
-
No, groups like Oh My Girl show that a 1 year hiatus won't affect your chart performance if you still have GP interest. Dingga actually did pretty well, but after that the music just wasn't up to par. Aya doesn't sound like something that would smash and their recent comeback was a ballad released in Summer, it wasn't going to smash either. Plus they're getting old for KPOP female idol standards.

oh I mean why did they have a year break.. Dinga was like towards the end of the year

they did well with AYA and Dingga tho... basically, Travel was their best-selling album from all, broke all records in terms of 1st day, 1st week, and total sales...
and their recent release was mostly done for fans...
+ remember that all girls released solo albums after HIP!
Moonbyul had two albums, Solar single album, Hwasa had her album, and Wheein also
and people bought those albums, it's not like they sold 5k or something

it's everything
new GG debuting stealing fans to older GG especially during a 1 year hiatus
the girls being more focus on their solo career than group career
MMM losing their chinese fans support
Bad song choice, a ballad in summer was like the worst idea especially if it's not a fresh ballad but more an emotional ballad
lack of group content, most of their variety show apparition etc... are in solo now, even when they are promoting as a group

I don't think age necessarily matters, Wonder Girls did well with Why So Lonely in 2015 despite debuting in 2007 and Apink did well with Dumhdurum in 2020 despite debuting in 2011, I think it's just that people weren't feeling the song as it was a ballad during the summer

They had somes problems this comeback :
- A ballad album in summer (not the best period, but it was for the 7th anniversary and with minimal promotion)
- The twitt incident, that got the chinese fanbase to boycot this cb
- a release date with strong conpetition
i was surprised the only got 40k on their first day and 85k on the first month, but i'm more surprised with the number of yesterday when the total sales jumped to 130k.
So i think first week sales dropped because of chinese fanbase, but the GP realy liked the album
