JOY HELLO : BOP Vs FLOP

  • A BOP ofc! I know some people don't like this type of music, I personally love it. It's simple, you can enjoy the vocals and it has that nostalgic vibe that also makes you happy somehow (even though you're failing college and contemplating your existence and survival in this capitalistic world). But you have to admit she has the voice of an angel. All of those who didn't like it probably didn't because it's not their taste, not because the music is bad.

  • I've been a K-pop fan/stan for a good while now, but the concept of being obsessed with charts, achievements, and awards is still very novice to me. I don't get it and I don't think I ever will.

I'm still upset with how people were speaking ill of Wendy's solo project, calling it "flopping," just because it didn't perform very high on charts. It was never really meant to do well on the charts; it was not that kind of release.

So really, this whole thing just ruins people's perception of what music they should enjoy. Your taste should be dictated by your individual style, not anything as superficial as numbers.

You are very right indeed. Wendy's solo album was very high quality. But I think people slept in her album because they don't prefer ballad songs. Joy album is reflects herself completely. Energetic, cheerful and bright. Personally, I find solo solo singers better quality of their work. Because they reflect their own style and their voices shine most on the individual. Group songs are also fun, but I think it's just a prelude to building their individual careers.

  • This isn't the type of song that's should be judged in the bop/flop kind of sense. It actually has the cinematic quality of a movie with its own soundtrack. It also feels like it could be from a scene in a Broadway play. The last to do that in K-Pop was IU and Apink.

The song that stands out to me as feeling most artistically and energetically aligned to being "track 2 of 2 a Joy (of Red Velvet) solo-mini album" is "Day By Day". It's not original, but it is a song Joy can hit during the next international SMTOWN to distinctly showcase the individual "vocal flavors" of Red Velvet.

  • She looks gorgeous and the mv is cute. The colors and the vibe are perfect for the summer.

The song is good but not for me. There are plenty of similar older Korean songs and since this is a remake of one, maybe it will do well.

But it would be nice to her do something more modern. I don't know if that's her style though. If it is, then that's great.
