Am I the only one who doesn't care about photocards?

    2. No, I'm weird too. (32) 91%

I see a lot of bulk buying and photocard buying by people who wants to collect all photocards from the albums. But I only care about having the album, I don't collect photocards. Am I the weird one in the bunch?

  • I have daydreams about burning photocards and/or leaving them in random public places. Photocards are evil and only exist for unnecessary production and consumption resulting in more pollution.

  • I cared a little about photocards until I realized (fairly quickly) that they were a pain in the ass to collect. So I don't bother anymore. Plus, they're honestly so low quality it's kinda laughable, like cheap ass poorly done selfies. I can do without them.

I'm not into collecting them. I get excited over seeing what I'm gonna pull, but after that they go right back in the album and on the shelf.

Like I don't really get it tbh. I know you can resell super popular idol photocards for some good money, but are they worth anything after popularity fades? I mean I've watched my fair share of Pawn Stars and they rarely bite on most collectable cards because there's no real value in them outside of sports (and Pokemon I guess).

  • So 3rd gen is the best selling gen without even needing the music. Wow.

The worst is the video call events lots of groups are doing right now. Basically you purchase a copy of the album and you get ticket for a draw where the winners will earn a video call with the group. Of course, the more copies you buy, the higher your chances to win a spot are. I purchased several copies of (G)I-DLE's Dumdi Dumdi and CLC's Helicopter for that reason but failed at winning a spot. So I think I learned my lesson. (Well maybe not, I think with (G)I-DLE I might try again ;( )

You are not weird. I think people collecting photo cards seem strange to me. Even if there are people who like to collect, what will you do by collecting them? They are not your lover or nor friend. I think it is enough to support your favorite artist just by purchasing their albums. I guess this is a money trap. Marketing strategies of companies.

  • I keep all my photocards in a folder so they don't get ruined and then never look at them again. I've been thinking about selling them off.

I do initially get excited about pulling a bias though.

  • It reminds me I made some stat calculations last year when I was considering how many copies I should buy in order to get all the photocards of an album.

Let's go with 6 photocards which is below average; lots of groups have more members and even those who have fewer members use to double the number of photocards per member. But let's go with 6.

So if you want to reach, let's say, 75% chance of opening a full set of 6 photocards, you need to buy... 18 copies. It's a lot.

    :sweatr:

  • That's true. You really need a lot. That's how collectible card sellers make money.
