Why westerners are obsessed with Korean beauty standards?

  • As I started using Tik Tok, more I started seeing more of these white girls complaining about korean beauty standards changing them. I can understand why you might mind Korean beauty standards if you're east/south east asian because like Korean standards probably affects you too. But western and korean beauty standards are completely opposite . I'm not saying lets defend beauty standards but like why do white girls wants to look like Korean beauty standards? Its not going to make them be viewed as prettier in their own community? In the end you want to suit a beauty standard to be viewed as pretty by your community (which is again a problematic idea) but still don't understand why white girls are trying to suit beauty standards of Korea when they live in Germany or sum.

  • Some white girls want to look more like Korean girls while some Korean girls want to look more like white girls. The conclusion here is that people are silly.

  • maybe it's because of skin?

it's not even about having many skin problems but I usually see that even my female friends which are taking care of themselves they don't have perfect skin, not mentioning wrinkles, and looking older than Korean women in same age

    PLSSS WHAT IS THIS

  • Korean products have a reputation for being the best skincare products. A reputation that Korea has largely created to boost sales etc.

I highly doubt its anything else.

Also, low key shade I feel like a lot of Korean skincare products are gimmicks. I prefer western products as they largely try to put the most functions they can into one product. Where as I feel like Korean products try to have like 10 products to do 10 different things as a cash grab instead of having like 3 products in the line where each one is multifunctional.

  • I don't get it. Haven't people all over the world, from all races and cultures, gone and copied and emulated Hollywood stars, pop star icons and Western beauty standards in make up, hair style and clothing since the '50s last century?

It's the same with people all over the world trying to pick up and adopt Japanese and Korean/K-pop styling, fashion and cultural trends.

Passion and love for the people and things you admire knows no color or cultural boundaries.

Personally, K-pop has changed my former stereotypical view I had of East Asian beauty and visual diversity, and I've learnt that there's wildly and abundantly more range and possibilities in visuals than I was aware of before.

Also, on average Koreans (or Asian people in general) look younger and have better skin than same-age people in the West - and they're slimmer, skinnier than Americans on average. That has its own appeal if those are the things you find goalworthy.

  • Look at how Korean skins (most) are glowing and smooth, youngish, pimple-free etc... Proof is in the pudding

But having said that, I still use Western products. Estee Lauder (and other luxury brands of course) is a big thing there. When I was there a long time ago, the queue to purchase an Estee product was so long.

We live in the era of asianfication of western culture heck Neets are a thing in the west now, anime is almost mainsteam(demon slayer movie) and kpop is a huge global niche, asian things from the sinosphere(China, SK, Japan) are trendy rn culturally it's an interesting side-effect of globalization.

Sorry but in the Hollywood era no Asian made fun of American people

Today if you go to America you can even get murdered for being Asian

This is the most unvalid point I have ever seen

The fact that some people in the West are racist or ignorant, doesn't mean that other people in the West can't admire celebs, idols and icons that have a different color or race. Or want to copy their style and looks.

Also, not every people in the West are like Americans when it comes to race and racism.

While racism and racist prejudice is everywhere, in a lot of Western countries (ie with a lot of white/caucasian people) racist conflicts and prejudices have been far less intense and widespread than in the US.
