Yes, YouTubr and Spotify aren’t American centric. But these are not the favorite stats that are often used.

You can't blame the fans if companies themselves are going after Western success. More English songs or versions, more Friday releases, more groups signing to an American company, distribution deals etc etc. When fans see that, they can't help but follow and do what they can to bring more success to their group.
They see Asian success as something given since kpop have always been quite big there.
Majority of Groups ain’t got western validation and also won’t have it, yet won Awards. Twice is the best example lol.

There are a large percentage of Westerners on akp so I’m not surprised to see the discussion centered around it.
The bigger question would be why don’t fans within other countries post charts and data? I’d love to see regular reporting beyond Gaon, Hanteo, Oricon and US, but no one lists what’s happening on other charts in Asia in the Kpop forums (unless I’m just not seeing it?). I can’t think when I ever saw a post about any charts, etc in SEA.

The bitter truth in this is if a group is successful in the US, automatically they are successful globally.
US market is what most of the world focus on, and they follow the trends there so, the fans/streams may not be the biggest in the US, but it has more clout.

Never said they shouldn’t expend.
Both are gold mine but the West is a bigger gold mine. It's uncharted territory so they still a lot more to excavated. It's harder to crack but extremely lucrative when done right.
SEA is also a gold mine but much smaller. By default, most Kpop groups already have some popularity in SEA countries but not top-popularity. You can say they can earn a lot of money by reaching the TOP in SEA countries - but since they need to try reaching the top in both West and SEA to earn a good amount of money, doesn't it make sense to try for the bigger gold mine? That mean they can get good cash at 30% of popularity in the West when they probably need to get to 80% level to get the same amount in SEA.
Second, Kpop companies can have popular groups in SEA but do they actually know how? They got lucky with one or two because of foreign members so they replicate the formula but they don't get the same result across the field. SEA countries are not in the bag either for them.
Third, the West is harder in a way but much easier as well. Majority speak or understand English. The pop-culture is also very similar. Get popular in the US translate well to other countries like Canada, Europe, and to a lesser extent South America. Whereas each SEA countries have their own language and unique culture. Getting popular in one SEA countries doesn't translate to the same ripple effect to other countries, for example getting popular in Thailand doesn't mean that will translate over to Singapore or Vietnam. In a way SEA markets are much harder if you think about the logistic.
