She deserves to so much more popular!

  • People always say visuals aren't talented and blah blah blah but where are you all when a talented visual debuts? Sullyoon deserves to be so much more popular than she is. She is the whole idol package. Actually that's true for nmixx as a whole

  • She isn't charming enough imo. She is beautiful, talented, but she doesn't stand out in her own group when they are performing so I guess that's it ? At least in my case that's it.

She's a great talent, but she might be too reserved to stand out. It's not easy but to gain popularity it's more than being a visual, and an idol has to show personality to maintain fans. In Nmixx Bae, Haewon, and Jiwoo show more personality which is why they're gaining popularity or more popular. I think it's something they have to work on because visually speaking Sullyoon might be one of the best for a 4th gen idol, but doesn't have the personality to take herself to the next level in popularity.

Yep, visual for visual we have many others already "established", it's not like k-pop lacks visuals or visuals that know how to sing so she isn't something new or fresh for k-pop. The least she needs to have with her visuals is charisma, some personality and she lacks it from what I see about nmixx.

  • She's really talented and pretty

But i think there's 3 thing that explain why she isn't very popular

1/ she seems to be on the more traditional beauty type like visual like seolhyun, tzuyu, yoona etc ....and i feel like the kpop market have been saturated with this type of visual during end of 3rd gen - 4th gen that they no longer stand out as much than they did in the past

Now the trend in visual is more for the striking, etheral/AI visual like Wonyoung and Karina that have this traditional beauty but not so traditional beauty

Thas why i think even if she's pretty, she never reached the hype WY and Karina had since their debut for their visual

2/ i've been into NMIXX a lot during their debut with O.O and Dice, i loved their direction

So i've watch some of their content and Sullyoon probably because she's shy or just introvert was kinda fading in the background and wasn't really being in the front row during their content

She gets overwhelmed by personality like Lily, Haewon, etc....

And i feel like people who are popular also gets their popularity push thanks to their personality

For example WY went viral for the lucky vicky things

Karina went viral in korea multiple times thanks to her bubble message and how she treat fans

    And they are both easygoing

3/ i think on stage she's doing a great job at singing, dancing etc....

    But she just lack something

She's not really like the other visual in their group where on stage your eyes directly spot this person

Once again she's getting overshadow by people like Kyujin etc....

I think you have to more than a visual to stand out. There's plenty of visuals in kpop, so an idol needs to win people over with charm. She's a great vocalist but she's in an interesting spot where she could be the main vocalist for most groups. However, she's in a group with Haewon and Lily who are stronger vocalist, so they stand out more in that regard. She's reserved and is an introvert which isn't the best when trying to be a popular idol. I can't really think of an idol that is reserved and very popular. I guess jype can do a bit more by allowing the group to explore more brand deals to help her stand out a bit more.

Anyway, this is the reality in kpop where it's not always about skills and visuals and you need charisma and personality to win people over. I think people forget that part when they wonder why certain idols are more popular than others.

    There's some

But you need to fully embrace this part of yourself and be able to make it an advantage

First example that came to my mind is SNSD Seohyun

She was really really shy during snsd debut because she was really young, and next to a lot of very strong personalities like hyoyeon, sooyoung etc....

But she really start to gain a lot of popularity when she embrace her introvert and shy side

And made it an advantage by turning this into the awkward maknae

And start to make of her introvert side something funny more than a disadvantage

  • I personally do not find anything special in her visuals. Might be because I'm internally programmed against the beauty standard but imo, Haewon, Kyujin, and Jiwoo easily take the top stop in terms of visuals.

That being said, she's simply an average performer plus is really shy lol. During most of NMIXX's performance, most people are probably drawn to Haewon or the two main dancers because they have that presence about them. Haewon especially has that presence plus is more outgoing which allows her to attract stans quickly but Sullyoon doesn't really have that because she's usually reserved.

I also think that Sullyoon hasn't really fit NMIXX's concept as a group tbh. Up until recently.

I think it's hard for her to stand out in a group who has been very performance heavy with some pretty hard hitting choreography. I feel like something more girlish like Blue Valentine and Roller Coaster fit her really well, but the more hip hop and girl crush concepts make it hard for her to shine on stage.

Agreed. I think that played a big part of it because there hasn't been that many promoted tracks to make her stand out.I think their 2025 output had more songs that could help her stand out better. I think previous work was more suited for other members. I think this resulted in her gaining more popularity in Korea. I noticed Sullyoon was getting mentioned in more articles in 2025 and helped solidify herself as the 2nd most popular member

I wonder if part of the reason of her not standing out is the group being pushed more as a unit rather than certain individuals. I've always felt there's always been a good balance in the group and we don't really see certain members receive preferential treatment. I think for a popular group they're the most balance in that regard. I understand Haewon gets variety gigs but even then it made sense and I don't view it as her being favored.

    Yes, I agree.

I think JYP has always used the strategy of using the most popular member to promote the group as a whole. Haewon as the leader and best at variety was the perfect choice to promote to try and get more attention on everyone.

And, they have also done a great job at giving the other girls opportunities without creating a group where one member has an overwhelming amount of popularity. Each of them has had the opportunity to host shows, and now, several of them have their own CF deals along with getting solo magazine opportunities.

As a fan, I like. But, I do hope JYP is much better about capitalizing on NMIXX's moment to create sustainable solo popularity unlike what they did for ITZY and Twice though. I think 2026 is a great time to do that along with pushing the group as whole. Especially coming off of an amazing year like 2025 where they received so much love, attention, and accolades.
