This is exactly what I said a couple of months ago, made a poll and people called me crazy for saying Kpop is boring and because of the new trends we lost a lot of content, especially Variety Shows.
Everyone live on social media and became an Insta Fashion influencer.
Yeah you're right sadly ...
Hope SBS comes back to their senses and bring back a new format of THE SHOW. There needs to be a slight chance for small groups to have a chance to achieve something! -
Well, lookey here...

I think it's impressive that Mexico and Brazil are ahead of countries like Thailand and Taiwan but I assume they have more popular services in those countries.
-
I think it's a stream vs. physical sale revenue thing. It's whether they'd make a return on their investment if they solely rely on streams, since streams don't make that much money compared to physical sales...
-
Spotify is by far the biggest streaming plataform in Mexico and Brazil,
K-pop has been a popular niche in Latin America since 2nd generation when Super Junior, SNSD, 2NE1 were at their peak — It just got bigger. It does help Thailand and Taiwan's total population are a lot closer to the state of São Paulo than the whole Brazil.
So in terms of raw-numbers, on Spotify, It might be more beneficial to have a strong fanbase in Brazil than being mainstream in Taiwan, for example.
About the touring, they actually go to Mexico regularly. But South America is more difficult, because due to the current economic and the desvalued currency, bringing K-pop groups is expensive and It's only genuinely profitable If they do stadium concerts. What, obviously, almost all groups can't.

I guess they receive data from international stores about which countries are purchasing albums.

True, it's most likely not worth visiting because of the economic conditions in those markets. Do smaller groups visit Meixco or is it mainly big groups? I feel it's usually just the big groups, but I don't pay too much attention to touring schedules unless it's a group I follow. I guess it could still be worth it to make sure to make stops at Brazil and Mexico because Nmixx did extra work marketing towards latin america market, and it's now paying off. Next year, they're going to perform at one of the biggest latin america festivals. So, I think if there's general effort it could be an untapped market that could pay off for certain groups.

Even smaller acts go. Of course, not as regularly as in the United States, but I believe that, logistically, It ends up being somehow feasible since Mexico is in North America. So they end up adding at least one show there when they're going to the United States.
Regardless, I agree without It could pay off for some groups once they try some promotion here. Since Latin America lacking in attention, the fans end up placing considerable value on those who at least care about the market.

Tbh not just 5th gen but kpop has taken a dive in Korea As a whole! I was surprised by this!
No wonder all these big companies are putting focus into other countries!

Still very interesting to see countries outside of east and southeast asia making the top 10.

You’re right! It’s true, Spotify alone isn’t good statistics to fully make this claim but other Korean platforms have been losing users/steams for some years now like Melon etc

I think it’ll be better for someone that lives in Korea to confirm how mainstream Kpop is nowadays in Korea

Tbh I was thinking the other day Kpop songs generally have more English than ever! Comparing 2nd gen to 5th gen majority songs have more English than Korean! Also songs are really really short!

If we look at the melon chart for example it seems idol groups are losing their place to soloists. Just did a quick count on chatgpt and only 13 groups are in the current melon top 100. List doesn't include female soloist, but it does seem there's a potential shift happening with soloist possibly taking the place of groups in Korea. However, outside of Korea it's mainly the groups that people are interested in
