Am I the only one who found the 4th gen era quite short !?

Thats because we don't have a 5th generation..... problem solved

I think that companies tried hard to push for 5th gen because they couldn't really compete with the big groups in 4th gen like New Jeans, IVE, and AESPA.

They had a chokehold, so they started marketing groups as the leaders of 5th gen to circumvent that.

That, in addition to the dominance held by BTS and BlackPink at the time. By the time 4th gen had finally secured themselves as the top, companies were already pushing for 5th gen.

2nd gen was from 2002-2013

as far as I know new jeans is 4th gen same as Ive and aespa....5ht gen started in early/ mid 2023 if I'm not mistaken groups like baemon, kiss of life, boy next door, riize, illit etc

why are generations getting shorter?

I feel generations is just a fancy marketing terms to shield newer groups from getting dwarfed by the top groups. It's obvious the 5th gen groups would've been overshadowed by the top 5 4th gen groups at the time. As a fan it didn't really feel like a new gen started because it didn't seem like any major changes happened with sound and concepts. I think this year feels like the shift is happening rather than 2023.

So far there are only 3 groups with hits from 5th generation, but 2 of them haven't been able to elevate their statuses with that. I won't say 5th Gen is slowly talking over.

There is another factor: 4th gen has 2 phases, the groups you haven't seen peak are from later phase, near the end 4th gen.

They know they can't beat the 4th gen so they created their own 5th gen to have their "5th gen records"

No. I think it's past time for it to end, actually.

The concept of gens, and which group falls where, gives me so much more stress than it should lol

No way in hell are they 5th gen lol. Plus they are almost all just carbon copies of their 3rd and 4th gen sunbaenim.

Allday and Katseye are unique enough to be classified as 5th gen tbh. Very West heavy vibes, very multicultural, coed members, etc. They dont look and feel anything like the Kpop groups that came before them.

Bro, did you remember what happened from 2021-2024? 4th gen literally destroyed everyone else in Korean entertainment.

Next Level dealt the mortal blow to previous gens, then it was a literal avalanche of dominating 4th gen songs from Idle, Ive, Stayc, New Jeans, LSRFM, and Illit.

4th gen finally peaked when Aespa came around full circle and dominated 4th gen's final year on top with Supernova and Whiplash, and then Ive released the last #1 4th gen song (Rebel Heart).

4th gen's peak easily matched 3rd gen's peak of Twice/BP/BTS. And 2nd gen's peak of SNSD/WG/Sistar/2NE1.

Yes because generations are marketing terms and when groups like BTS started dominating they had to come up with ways to make their groups stand out and make up achievements for hype. First _ gen group to do _ is actually a silly achievement.
