Takedown is both blessing and a curse for Twice

    It finally gave them what they've been deprived of, the charting. But it highlights their lack of skill and this time in a studio version of a song.


    The song literally has a superior version, by the voice actors. Twice live singing has always been a controversial topic but this one will have people talking about their vocals in general. Specifically Jeongyeon's line comparison hits hard. It was something I didn't mind before but now I can't unhear her high pitch yelling in every other song.


    Hell, it even made me listen again to their new era songs and think "what if someone else did it". Strategy in particular sounds like a worldwide hit if Ariana or Sabrina sang it, Twice just couldn't pull it off vocally. And I am thinking Feel Special would have been much more well received if a vocal group like Mamamoo took it.

    I've said it before but it's for the better they didn't choose Golden. They most likely would've blocked Golden from reaching #1 on the US billboard chart.


    Takedown is a good song too and I think it was good for the trio. Also, I think "What It Sounds Like" would've worked well too.


    I disagree with the OP that they couldn't perform Golden. I think the major issue with golden would've been the line distribution for the trio.

    You've said it before, but you still haven't explained WHY you think Twice singing Golden would prevent it from achieving the same success, which is clearly not predicated on who sang the song, as no one has ever heard of these people.


    Considering only three members made it onto the existing OST track, I don't think line distribution was a big concern.

    Mainly speaking for US billboard, but the Twice version of the song would steal listens from the huntrix version. Just that fine detail could be the reason why Golden doesn't hit #1 on that chart. That's what I was mainly speaking about because I think takkedown didn't chart as high because Twice version took some of it's listen.


    If you look at the current US chart Takedown is ranked #26 but the Twice version is taking listens from it which impacted in the song reaching a higher peak. This reason alone would block Golden from having the same impact across charts across the globe. Th song will still be a hit of course but it wouldn't reach the same milestones

    Give them the only version of the song and this isn't an issue. It's not like the voice actors sang it; they could've chosen anyone.

    That was never on the table because if that was the case there wouldn't be a Huntr/x version of takedown. I stand by my point it would've cannibalize listens for Golden and it wouldn't reach #1 on most charts.

    They wouldn’t be able to sing golden. It is too high and hard for Twice.

    They have always been weak vocalists. Nothing new about it though.

    I kinda agree with OP about the song is both blessing and curse, BUT not for TWICE, more like for JYP!


    One of the best song on the OST was "Takedown" and the girls did great, it actually showcases what they can do, and it was 100x better song that JYP put out in the past 3 or more years.


    And yes, it also showcases that their vocal skills decreased a bit, especially Jihyo's, but she's still a decent singer.


    If anything, JYP daddy should look in the mirror and think: "Hell, I need to hire better producers and stop with the overused autotune." because every time TWICE members sing a song that's not produced by JYP, it's miles better than their own songs, and they always sound much better.

    Anyone who think TWICE's vocal line is still as strong as they were 5-6 years ago are ignorant. Jihyo were mentioned alongside top-tier vocalists like Hyolyn, Solar and Taeyeon, actual vocal coaches said, she could be the next Hyolyn, than TWICE got big, and JYP stopped with the vocal training and it shows. She's not even close to her old self. The same goes for all of them.


    I'm not saying they're crap, but they're bang average now, and Jihyo is the best still, so you can imagine the rest.


    And if you compare ANY of their songs from the past 3 or 4 years with "Takedown" you can tell the difference producing wise as well. It's day and night. On "Takedown" they sound natural, on their songs, they sound like chipmunks.

    I'm not old, pal, and no, it's not ludicrous. You can find multiple vocal coaches saying the same thing.


    You can compare rookie Jihyo with her present self. If you can't see the difference, it's not my fault.


    I think you forgot I'm a Kpop fan since 2003, and one of my biggest fave girl group was Wonder Girls, and that's the reason I was waiting for TWICE debut. G.O.D was the main reason I was interested in JYP groups, even tho they weren't a JYP group originally.


    So, don't even try to question my knowledge or fan status. I'm just not biased like many Kpop fans.

    Mate, I'm not here long enough to say a lot of positive things about TWICE, and when I criticize them, it's usually about JYP not the girls.


    I don't even remember when was the last time I actually loved a TWICE Title Track. It was around 2021 or so, probably.


    I'm a massive MAMAMOO, Red Velvet and SNSD fan as you know. Do you think I love everything they put out? Hell no! Being a real fan means you can criticize your faves' music or even their skills too.


    You can't see me trashing TWICE for their vocals or performance many times. I usually talk about their music and that's all. I literally said, they sound much better in "Takedown" than in any of their own songs in the past couple of years.


    I don't need you to do anything, if you want to live in your delulu land, do it, I don't mind. TWICE's vocal-line isn't the only vocal-line in Kpop that got worse over time.

    Debut Jihyo could never have pulled off her Lolla performance, nor could she have sounded as good she did in Killing Voice. I mean the latter is demonstrably true given how much better she sounds performing the old songs. On the former, nobody will talk about the absolutely insane stamina required for what she achieved there.


    Anyway, it is factually untrue that they do not continue to train their vocals. For example, Tzuyu's vocal coach is Katie Riggs, which we only know because she commented on a post once. When I tried looking it up just now, I found that Jihyo has admitted on multiple occasions that she still takes lessons.


    David is right that their vocals are autotuned to hell in their recorded tracks. But that doesn't mean they don't deliver live, they absolutely do. But having said even that, there must be a reason they've never performed, for example, Cruel (as far as I know).

    Dude this is old argument. Twice chose most of those songs. Same with Takedown. They have edgy teen taste in music.

    Popper-of-Ks I think people are allowed to criticize groups they like/are fan of without being hate, i don't understand this constant behaviour of kpop fans where they can't say anything negative about the groups they like, it just makes you come as delusional, i am not singling you out or anything but talking in general, like i love Twice but it is true they aren't a strong vocalist group and you don't have to hate the group to be able to see that, just like that lesserafim guy who gets angry and called me anti fan because i said Sakura isn't a good vocalist or Yama whenever he makes a thread about "ranking your faves on different things" but then he refuses to do it for NewJeans because he refuses to say anything slightly negative about NewJeans, i never understood this logic

    I have no idea where you get off thinking I'm even talking to actual Twice fans, but I can assure you, I am definitely not. Calling me "delusional" is also nothing but an empty epithet when you can't even be bothered to prove me wrong. You don't agree with me, great. You don't have to. But you haven't added anything of substance to the discussion by merely sharing your opinion that none of them are strong vocalists. I can say they are and we're right back at an impasse.

    I've just listened to both versions and I choose Twice's. They might not be as vocally talented as the voice actors but is way more pleasant to the ears, their vocal tone actually fits the characters, i find the actors singing voice grating and just annoying in general. Golden is another example of that, I don't care if they can hit impossible notes, I want a song I can listen to (comparing it with the original), IVE's singing is average but they make I am work so well
