How likely is it for SourceMusic and PELDIS to successfully distance themselves from HYBE?

  • Hmm?? 7

    1. Very likely and yes, it will impact the groups (0) 0%
    2. Very likely but no, it will not impact the groups (0) 0%
    3. Somewhat likely and yes, it will impact the groups (1) 14%
    4. Somewhat likely but no, it will not impact the groups (0) 0%
    5. Not likely at all and yes, it will impact the groups (4) 57%
    6. Not likely at all but no, it will not impact the groups (2) 29%

We all know BSH is about to go down under (hopefully) so do you think SouMu and PLEDIS will manage to distance themselves from him AND HYBE?

And I mean "distance" in the sense of them becoming independent once again and not a subsidiary.

If you DO think so, do you think it will affect their groups in a significant way?

If you DON'T think so, do you think the thing with BSH will still affect them?

  • Hybe owns over 80% of both labels and iirc both their boards and CEOs are composed of Hybe people.

As far as the impact on the groups, I'm kinda split. It really comes down to branding. Pledis does not have a strong Hybe brand because they already had a massively successful group and legacy before they were acquired. Source Music's brand and identity is inseparable from Hybe's

  • SouMu is Hybe.

Pledis basically the same but at least Seventeen (who currently generate the 90% of the money of the sublabel) and their fandom are clearly against Hybe so maybe there's some hope, but it would probably need some risky move from Seventeen themselves that I don't think it's worthy to take since they could leave by their own eventually.

  • didnt 17 renew for other 7 years...

    girl do the math

bang piggy case will go for years until he gets a suspension like any other ceo (look at yg) and they will put somenody on his place meanwhile (again look at yg case during burning sun)

nothing will happen to hybe, a conglomerate now, so there is no reason for them to break a contract (unless they like to pay like some silly girl)

Do we know anything about their contracts? The only way they could distance themselves from HYBE if they buy back the shares, but I don't think they have the money for that.

I wouldn't bet big money on HYBE's full-on downfall. Bang PD may get jail time and could be fired, but that doesn't mean the company is finished for good. In this industry, money speaks, and they have a LOT!

Also, what about Bighit? They might take over the whole company.

  • I chose "Not likely at all and yes, it will impact the groups", mainly because I don't see PLEDIS or Source Music breaking away from HYBE anytime soon, especially given the structure and financial advantages of being under the HYBE umbrella.

For PLEDIS, SEVENTEEN renewed their contracts, and I believe it was likely because they have creative autonomy within the company. Woozi, the unit leaders, and the team clearly have strong internal control over their artistry, and they probably have a deal that supports that. That said, with HYBE's budget and infrastructure, they can do more in terms of promotions, touring, and global reach than they probably could on their own, especially if they'd have to fight for rights or trademarks if they ever wanted to break away. Let’s be honest, SEVENTEEN is the clear moneymaker for PLEDIS, so it’s unlikely the company or HYBE would let go easily.

Even if BSH falls, the ripple effect will absolutely impact all subsidiaries. Whether it’s financial, reputational, or internal restructuring, it’ll touch every label in some way. I don’t think SEVENTEEN will be harmed directly, but the overall environment could shift. As for PLEDIS, yes, SEVENTEEN is their core, but they do have other artists like fromis_9 and TWS who are gaining traction, though they’re still not at the level where they could carry the company independently.

So no, I don’t think separation is likely, and yes, whatever happens to HYBE will inevitably affect the groups tied to it, even if only behind the scenes.

  • one of the key factors behind a group's success is the company behind them

I recall nmixx got 60K preorders for the album before they even debuted - nugu and less successful groups still haven't managed 60K sales total!!!

  • It will not have any effect, or just very minor. I mean, how many kpop fans acctually care about that the one of the owners of a kpop company does?......

Exactly. No one cares. Plenty of other company execs get into mess all the time. Why should it have any effect on the groups lol.
