Illit's new album will be produced by Frants, who conducted the downfall of GFriend

  • During the height of the MHJ - New Jeans shitshow, Frants, a Hybe producer, was shown hugging a bunny plush, adding fuel to the shitstorm.

Frants is pretty low in the Hybe pecking order of producers.

He produced GFriend's 3 albums after Hybe took it over, and his 3 titles for GFriend, Labyrinth, Apple and Mago, all failed and GFriend was disbanded soon after.

Following that, he mostly composed b-sides for Enhypen, few of them memorable.

If I were Illit members I would be concerned, since what Frants did to GFriend would be well aware to the industry.

When Katseye began to get songs more suitable to Illit, i think Hybe (= Bang) made a decision to put a priority over Katseye ove rIllit.

and now Katseye is going somewhere, unlike Vcha and some other similar attempts, Bang will put better songs to Katseye and shittier songs to Illit.

Given that Source will debut a new GG soon, Illit's position is getting worse.

In the movie Up in the Air , George Clooney plays a downsizing expert - whenever he showed up, mass layoff occurred.

And given Frants' history, it seems Frants plays a similar role in the Hybe organization.

Unless this new song from Frants becomes a sizable hit, which is a tall order given that all of his previous songs were lackluster, that will be hard .

  • I wouldn't say he was behind their downfall, or anything of the like. SouMus wanted rid of them as soon as Hybe bought the label, as they wanted a clean start under Hybe. Spending money on a group that didn't make much revenue makes no sense.

Illit exists to create revenue for Belift. Nothing more. Nothing less (despite the dodgy circumstances of their formation...). I think any attention to them will disappear next year, if SouMus debuts their next GG next year. I expect their sales to dip a bit (I don't see a massive revival for LSF either, as I no longer see their sales returning to the 1mn club at Hybe in the distant future).

They don't have to disband - they will be given shitty songs and would be run around minor events in Japan, never given a chance to shine again, which is like being put into a dungeon. Only Wonhee is given anything to do, since she is the choice of the Belift head, and the other members are neglected. Belift is under Hybe and will follow the Hybe guideline, and if anything , when Illit is revealed to be a failure as it now seems given Hybe's emphasis is with Katseye, Belift will be more focused upon the successor of Enhypen, which debuted in 2020 and the 7 year limit will approach soon.

  • All these songs were great and songs have nothing to do with how well a group performs on chart. If PR and marketing is good anything can be successful.

And marketing is bad. I am the first person who discussed the fact that Frants produced the new Illit album in this forum. Other than their small fanbase the new album is not being discussed actively.

  • Agreed! I never understood why those releases failed.

They were too 'experimental', and in one of their songs (I stopped paying attention to GF after Moonnight) there is a sequence where the glass bead is broken, which means breaking the identity of GF which basically rose from nothing with nothing more than the glass bead. It basically destroyed all the capital GF had built, and we now know that these measures were taken because Hybe was going to get rid of GF.

And we all know why's that, illit will remain the biggest victim of this entire Hybe and MHj fued. Their company also failed them. I hope this new comeback goes well, at least peaceful.

  • The songs before their disbandment aged well.

I do feel all eyes are on Illit because it's been a weak year for kpop. They have the chance to do something special if they release another hit.

This forum is not a good sample, lots of seniors and fans of seniors groups and singers

Also FRANTS is not the only producer:

  • Indeed.

From Glass bead, which ended Lovelyz, to TFTMN it was counted in the top rank, the last time an act from a nugu company made it that far.

I never finished Labyrinth and did not bother with the other two

And Hybe is doing the same thing to Illit
