So…was it?

Was Magnetic the Cheer Up of 5th Gen?

Bboom Bboom*
Which was a bigger hit!
-
-
-
Definitely not TT
-
Pretty sure it got an all-kill, so definitely #1.
Bboom Bboom was second only to D4 in 2018, and that's only in terms of peak performance (granted D4 came out in the summer whereas BB came out early Jan).
By year end, only Love Scenario had a higher digital score than BB.

this feels like a set up
its common knowledge that this forum doesn't like illit, so everyone's working hard to disprove whatever might've been partially correct.
Obviously a set up lol

The most similar thing to Cheer up these last years is Love Dive, the named 5th gen girl groups (I personally think we should still be in the 4th gen) is still far to have anything comparable to the peak songs of other gen groups.

The comparison is not bad actually, Bboom bboom never topped anything, its rise was at the same time Love scenario was released. It was at #5 in the yearly chart, Magnetic was at #8 but released later, I'd say they're on the same level in Korea.

Cheer up is a terrible comparison. If you were around for when SK went crazy over Brave Girls and Rollin, its like saying Magnetic was like Rollin.
The numbers don't tell the whole story, lots of streams are added these days because of songs being used in shorts and tiktok, but those songs don't end up making the acts famous or even making the songs big, songs get pushed on shorts and tiktok as promotion so streams get added without any actual impact. Same way you can't claim everglow was ever a top GG for 3/4th gen because they had huge youtube views meanwhile they still haven't gotten their first paycheck, or that Loona was major competition for redvelvet huge because the 'stan loona' meme was all over the internet. If we are going for 5th gen, surely newjeans hits with attention and hype boy are further up there?
-
In any case, 'Magnetic' is huge overall. Based off the numbers I think its the biggest gg debut song ever?

Because the resident Forum Queen Tru-Multistan used the word "ever" which triggered my fight or flight response

It's the biggest overall, you don't have to agree but it won't even be long before Magnetic passes Hype Boy on spotify, MV is already close, and did better charting overall. Hype Boy wasn't even #1 on circle monthly looking at it's wiki page.
You know I'm not biased towards illit or anything, I'm just looking at wikipedia and some basic numbers and to me it seems Magnetic is bigger
. Not saying it has more impact or anything, just overall a more popular song.

Ofc Magnetic was a huge hit
But there's a very small list of songs comparable to Cheer Up like Tell Me, Gee, Hype Boy, Love Dive, Tomboy that sensations and completely redefined groups' careers and legacies.
It just didn't do that Illit, even before their issues started. They'll probably do even better in the future

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hype Boy is close to becoming the most streamed girl group song in MelOn HISTORY and you think Magnetic is in its class with its front loaded numbers?
There has not been a more popular song than Hype Boy in the past decade, and the numbers all show that. The next closest song would be Ditto and then Love Dive.

If you aren't a problematic man you can be a man in akp

can anyone look at these and tell me, at a glance, which song do you think is bigger overall? If i'm wrong I'm wrong, I'll accept it.

Attention peaked higher than Hype Boy and blocked it from hitting #1.
So did OMG.
Okay, now who wants to make the argument those songs are more popular than Hype Boy?
Tru-Multistan would you like to try?
Tell me, what's harder: hitting #1, something every big hit song ever has done more or less...OR spending an entire year in the top 10 of every chart and ranking #2 in the year end charts the year AFTER the song was released.
Because only one girl group song ever has done what followed that "OR"
Cheer Up
Its days are numbered
