How do Western artists get K-Pop singers' attention?

  • My BFF has gotten various K-Pop singers' attention, like SNSD, Mamamoo's Solar, SEVENTEEN'S Joshua, Stray Kids' Felix, and even Ireh from PURPLE KISS.

  • Sometimes KPop-idols are their fans. I know for example that some ONEUS members are big Billie Eilish fans, see when she was doing a concert in Seoul I think Xion and Hwanwoong posted they had been seeing her in concert and had been very happy to see it, even got merch of her on. If Billie would collab with a KPop-act they would totally not say no

I also remember the time where V said he would love to collab with Zedd if he could and even made a shoutout in a video asking for him, but nothing happend till now. If Zedd would've known they are oneday one of the most famous acts and people get crazy to work with them, he would've probably not said no. Maybe he oneday reaches out to them for a collab

Not sure how Lizzo ended up working with AB6IX but I think she said she got kinda interested into checking out who to work with from Korea after seeing how popular KPop got, especially trought BTS and I think she said she taking a lesser known act in hops to be even able to work with someone cause she feared to be denied by the management of BTS if she had asked to work with them and I think they got to work with eachother cause Daewhi knew her music before or some

A few times people also got to work with KPop-acts due to the reason of just money or influence. So basicly if one of the parties involved into a song pays good money for it and/or helps due to being very influential in hopes to help someone break trought. But it often means nothing, as seen for example with how much someone like Steven Aoki worked with KPop-groups, altho he is very popular in the west. I mean yeah the collab he had with BTS worked quit well, also with MONSTA X but for example when he worked with A.C.E nobody really cared other than a handfull of A.C.E's fans.

  • Or as like in the case of Coldplay, be the most famous band to exist right now and ask the literally most famous boygroup that exist in the same timeperiod as you exist and boom, massive success

  • I think that kpop idols listen to Western/American music too and that's how they become fans of these artists. They may get inspired by them and then do a cover or want to collaborate. (e.g. I remember Twice's Jihyo said once that she was listening to Sza's album on repeat and it inspired her somehow for her solo debut).

Another reason that comes to my mind is if a song is suddenly trending, then they would know them.

I guess kpop idols are just like us. Music is their job and something they hopefully like, so they probably listen to and discover new artists all the time :-)

  • Also, maybe some of Avril's songs are getting popular again? First Girlfriend and now Sk8er Boy. I'm not complaining though, it's great that more people are listening to her.

    I don't think they are.

Nate Smith, an American country music singer, collaborated with Canadian rock singer Avril Lavigne in their latest song.

Maybe Bulletproof will be popular because that's the name of a guild here on AKP, and there's a song called Bulletproof featuring Avril Lavigne.

  • Has any K-Pop idol collaborated with a Western artist?

I only follow a few groups but most recent collabs that I know of are probably Blackpink girls - Rose with Bruno Mars and Lisa with Rosalia. Twice is going to release a collab with Megan Thee Stallion for their new album. I remember Blackpink also did a collab with Selena Gomez. Looks like these are mostly mainstream artists.

There must be more, but these mostly come to my mind. The songs from Blackpink members may be features instead of collabs, I'm not 100% sure.
