Why are Big 3 GGs so weak in the newer generations?

  • JYP, their recent songs are sub-par

YG, doing ok. They are still very young and improving

SM, doing well with sudden influx of Kakao money, but will this money train end soon?

Hybe, MHJ is a cancer for all their GGs including NJs

Edited once, last by K-PL ().

  • It happens. DSP used to be big three and then fumbled. Other agencies stepped up recently. New social media avenues opened up, allowing more opportunities for smaller companies to find audiences and gain popularity. And sometimes, even if you come from one of the Big 3, it just doesn't work.

And let's not pretend like they aren't losing out to companies that have produced quality groups before. Starship had Sistar, which could rival a weaker SNSD in 2014, HYBE has tons of resources now to promote their groups. And it's not like Cube never developed groups before.

  • I have high hopes for SMNGG honestly!

I guess they are training the girls and refining their debut songs so that they can hit big!

SM haven’t flopped with their GGS, maybe M.I.L.K, but they have quality ggs all the time!

  • well aespa slayed charts for so long this months

as for NMIXX you can see what k-fans are writing, kids are talented, pretty but give them good song

also there was ITZY before that, so JYP kind of capitalized on having two groups in the time where other labels had one or none

considering how people are counting generations Babymon is either 5 or 4.5 but more like 4.8 lol in terms of generations ouf course

if we think that IVE did so well, that NewJeans did so well, that Kiss of Life is doing well now, and STAYC did well back then...

honestly there isn't much to complain about girl groups

  • nmixx still has a pretty big fanbase considering their album sales are doing fine. Everyone knows they are a talented group but JYP keeps fumbling the bag and giving them awful songs. they just need to release a mega hit. babymonster is not even a yr old yet and already pretty big. aespa just had their biggest hit ever. seem to be doing okay

I don’t trust these albums sales that go to 1 million one comeback and then 1/5th of that in the next

  • BP and TWICE?

You are talking about the highest earning Kpop GGs of all time for their respective companies. TWICE also has the most consecutive number 1 Circle (GAON) Songs for any JYPE Artists, so it's a tall order to think that YGE or JYPE are going to be able to repeat that level of success.

NMIXX are a multi-million dollar earning group, a far cry from JYPE GGs prior to TWICE and Studio J (Division 4s) highest earning Artist.

The Entertainment Industry isn't so simple that a Company will only produce GGs at the level of BP or TWICE whenever they debut a GG.

  • SM hasn’t missed with girl groups I’m curious if their new girl group can deliver! But to answer your question I think it’s the same reason people will rather wear a new unknown clothing brand or no brand at all. Giving new things a chance. The quality of non big 3/4 groups is just as good or even better than big 3/4 groups imo :melon_think:

Big 3/4 used to debut all rounders with top visuals and great music but now every company can debut top visuals that are incredibly talented and put out great music :!: the era of big 3/4 dominating kpop is coming to an end

  • isn't this a good thing

it means the big3 need to get their asses into gear and no resting on one's laurels when newer (and older groups) can outdo them

    competition begets competition

  • RV/TWICE/BP still have a lot of fans on a chokehold. Might take some time for JYP and YG to find their true successors.

As for NMIXX and Baemon, their underwhelming debuts have kind of sealed their fates sadly. They might eventually recover, who knows.
