It’s incredibly frustrating when serious conversations are derailed by fandom biases. Instead of engaging thoughtfully, people often dismiss points based on which fandom someone belongs to. For example, if you express a well-considered opinion on a sensitive topic, which concerns you as person regardless of who you’re stanning, but you might be met with, "Oh, that's rich coming from a [fandom],"…. Like what do you mean??? As if your arguments are invalid just because of your fan identity.
This issue goes beyond typical fan wars… it's a deeper problem of not being able to engage respectfully with differing viewpoints. It’s concerning how some can only be civil within their own fandoms, while interactions with others are filled with tension and passive-aggressiveness.
Take for instance discussions about BTS and BLACKPINK. Fans often get so wrapped up in defending their favorite group that they lose sight of the broader conversation. It's sad because many of us might actually get along well if we could set aside our fan personas for a damn second lol.
We’re all here because we love K-pop, so why not focus on that shared passion?
Imagine a K-pop forum where discussions are engaging, without the constant undercurrent of fandom rivalry. We could learn so much from each other and enjoy our shared interests without the unnecessary hostility.
I swear there are users I have never seen engaging with anyone outside their guild… and when they do, it’s solely because they thought their fave were disrespected or there is a lot of passive aggressive energy towards the person they are responding too.
Just sad !
Done with my rant!
