TWS song actually went viral in South Korea, and some clow*s be claiming it's payola, while the song popularity shows the opposite. It's bigger than the group itself. Hybe or any company be limited in a way with Spotify, the songs had to go viral in every platform in order for a maximum impact. Magnetic is an example, OMG is an example. They can't force virality on songs that just doesn't deliver enough with payola alone. Not all Hybe lables released songs doing magic right now, either. It just depends on the songs to payola.

Regarding payola, if you mean playlist reach, imo Hybe works on a basis of the higher the ranking or filtered streams you get, the more playlisting you get. They got 10 times more playlisting than Illit initially, but simply didn't get into the Top 50 in Spotify Global. The drop in streams is more they have used the same concept for 2 years and the song quality.
In Korea, it is a case of who is willing to spend more on marketing. In addition, most of the money that the top groups now make come from non-Koreans, so numbers out of Korea really don't mean much. But Hybe still believes they will keep control of the group, so the marketing is not zero, its just not as massive as before.

Viral marketing. You pay enough you can make anything viral too. But they spend all their TWS marketing budget so now nobody even knows what TWS is. That’s the effect of non-organic. Magnetic had same but not as much because it was pretty decent song and group.
The biggest fandom in K-Pop (not the intelligent Korean branch) is actively boycotting and launching spiteful hate-fueled campaigns against NewJeans, and even with their best efforts, and all the alleged token fans abandoning NJ, they're still clearly the top girl group in the world in America, Korea and Japan.

Plot Twist blew up, it had a natural rise after they started promoting and became popular among school students, it was released at the right timing too. Magnetic teaser went pre-viral, the anticipation was high jeez I can't stress enough, there is no way any non-top tier K-pop group make these initial numbers without pre-virality. 1.3m is a huge debut for a new group, with a 2m playlist.
