Im not familiar with japanese charts

Japan has its own equivalent to Billboard Hot 100. That's what I'll be looking for primarily

  • what's amazing is the loyalty of their fans. 4 mid songs in a row would be enough to make me question being a fan, but to each their own I guess.

lol honestly. it's more of a cult than a fandom at this point. they'll continue to be popular in Asia. but this comeback was a big regression in the west. Not a single song in the top 50 on Spodify while Magnetic has been there for over three months.

Just because it is not buble gum pop, doesn't mean it is mid. These last two albums are tribute to 80s hip hop/R&B . jazz, Miami bass, and new jack swing were never meant to be mainstream music like pop. The drop on the streaming is understandable since NJ easy listeners would not like it. While for some, it's another fresh sound for kpop and already attracted new fans.

West kpop fans are basically army or hybe stans. I would not look much into it. They are driven more by emotional bias rather than find kpop musicality amusing.

Probably not the best choice of words considering one of the songs is literally named Bubblegum... And perhaps mid wasn't the best choice either. I don't think any of the recent releases are bad, just nothing exciting about any of them. Nothing about them that would make me go out of my way to listen, but I would not skip if they just came on. And it has nothing to do with it not being "bubblegum pop", Ive been listening to Shine With Me by IVE on repeat for a month and thats a ballad. But clearly newjeans is just not my taste, as I feel this way about most of their songs with some exceptions.

  • Don't forget Onces and Blinks. They hate to see the new kids on the block stealing all the shine and their records.

Despite all the people token stanning them who dislike any of these fandoms, they're still having less success than before.

Sadly, the token stanning will stop the very second NJ might block their faves from a win or place in the charts.

I was referring to bubblegum pop as in music genre, where "hybeboy" and "super shy" categorized under (bubblegum itself belong to r&b/pop/jazz genre).
