I don't really see the issue with sagaeji

  • Do you want your faves to have sajaegi? 15

    1. Nah keep it id rather they flop then do that (13) 87%
    2. Yes help my faves (2) 13%

If they're spending money to get streams so that others can see it and give it a chance it's just like paying for an ad

I actually feel like YouTube ads is sagaeji in a worse sense since we have no choice (well not me coz I have yt red)

I wish my flop faves could afford sagaeji then maybe they wouldn't be disbanded.

  • Ok this is already done by fans. The only reason this is bad when done by a company is it creates an unfair situation a monopoly. Think if a really big agency just paid for their group to be number 1 regardless if they were talented or not and had fewer fans. Whereas a smaller agency would have no chance and be pushed out of business regardless if their group was better talented.

I remember you're korean - and this is from google

In general, the term sajaegi is used for hoarding or bulk-buying something essential that leads to a negative impact. However, when the word is used as a K-pop industry term, it means an agency buying their own group's albums to create a notion of inflation in sales.

is that an accurate description of what it means?

and for chart sajaegi it's when the company themselves inflate the number of views correct?

  • Its ok, its not good if a group flops both overseas and in Korea.

They can spend a bit of money helping out a Korean business, and they don't flop in Korea. Win - Win.

  • Yes that's correct. But me personally I don't see the distinction between a company and a fan doing it. The only real difference is a company has a vested interest in doing so

  • The whole point of charts is to reflect what people are listening to.

I don't think it's wrong for companies to buy "spotlight" for a song or a group. Like, say buying the #1 slot on a huge Spotify playlist. Like, people who are just checking out the playlist will naturally listen to the 1st track and boost streams, and if it's good, the more people will listen to it. But, it's deceptive and shits on the hard work of other artists if you pay for a #1 spot on a chart and no one is actually listening to your song.

Advertising is one thing. Straight up stealing the spot on a chart from another artist is something else.

Music is already going to shit. I don't want a company to just be able to pay to have their crappy songs top charts. I want to listen to actually GOOD music. But, seems like those days may be far gone lol.

  • Exactly!

The problem isn't buying YT ads or Spotify playlisting or whatever. That's not really cheating, it's just unfair with small groups whom are probably way more talented and releasing much better songs.

The real problem is nowadays many fans think those numbers representing reality and more importantly, quality! Today music, and not just Kpop is all about views. If someone doesn't have 100M views after 1 month, people call them nugu, lame, boring etc. I don't really know what kids saying nowadays. 😂

Honestly, I kinda love these cheating bastards, because real music fans can find good music easier, they just have to ignore 95% of the TOP100 lists.😅

    Yes, 1000% this.

Numbers don't mean much these days. Taylor Swift just sold 2 million on her last album because she has an INSANE fanbase. But even a lot of her fans are saying that album was not it.

And if a company can afford to throw a few hundred thousand into YouTube ads, not that hard to pump numbers up.

Taylor Swift is the solo version of Blackpink.

Jokes aside, I like some of her songs, but overall, nothing special to be hyped about like many people does it.
