nah critics & viewers both scored low that means it isn't really good movie

No it means they're too scared to give it a higher score

yeah the thing is, i get easily scared from jump scares so movies like the grudge are the scariest shit i've ever seen lol, but those kinds of movies have terrible plot/acting so they don't really score good they're only scary cos of the jumpscares. But the good ones like hereditary and Us have an amazing story well written great acting, but they don't scare me that much, still pretty scary tho.

Shutter, thai movie.
I didn't watch it but my family did and they say it was scary.

Oh yes, i've actually seen the U.S version and it's not that good but everyone said the original (thai) movie is better and scarier

the american version made me sleep with the lights on for a whole month as a kid...
I wonder what the Japanese version will do

lol I think lots of scenes are the same. The US version is not necessarily less scary, it's just I don't like when the US film industry remakes everything. The Grudge US version is so close to the original, why bother? Watch the original, at least there won't be any out-of-place American characters.

For me, Thailand is pretty good with their horror movies. Maybe cos it's a country that is famous for curses etc.
South Korea and Japan has some good ones too. But for me, the pace are kinda slow moving.
However, some have really good backstory.

this one right 2002 version

I always watch horror movies in watching parties, tho it's difficult for me to point SCARY because a movie that makes me feel terrible is more based on true crime, but backing to the point people on the watching party were freaking THE HECK OUT watching "Host" like fr, personally I think the movie is cool!
Grave Encounters is another movie where the people were freaking out
and I agree with the reply here that said you should watch the original japanese Grudge movie
-
imma watch it at night alone

Lol.. Anyway, US horror movies used to make me laugh. Now sure you all realized it or not.
Some common scenario that they always use are buying a secluded cheap house in the middle of nowhere or entering an abandoned/empty house and shouting "Helloooooo".. Like announcing to all the ghosts in the house that "I am here, please make me your new victim". :-D
Maybe not so common in recent movies. But those old old ones. Been some time since I watched one.
The older you get, the more coward you become.

actually same though, i cannot for the life of me watch anything intense. But then i get bored if it’s not intense enough..a real dilemma. Scary movies...i avoid like the plague honestly. Downright terrifying stuff they are.
