It is just that international popularity of Kpop makes it much more appealing for them to renew.

During the 2nd gen internation market wasn't strong, so going into acting and other types of individual activities were better for idols' careers. In fact, I firmly believe V would've gone full time into acting if BTS didn't blow up in 2016-2017 which was the exact year he starred in that tv show. That changed the course of history.

because 3rd gen girl groups ( at least bp and to some extent twice) and 3rd gen in general are still bigger globally and have touring power they are still marketable and very profitable

technically RV has I guess but there's still not renewal news for them (officially speaking)
