KPop Global Map 2023 - The Discrepancy between Global and Korean rankings are now even more apparent

  • Once in a while the KPop Global Map is published. It was there in 2018, were not there 2019-2021 but was there last year.

IN that year, with no surprise, BTS was at #1 but in a coup which shook the world, and reaffirmed the rabid Korean incels that BTS is not relevant to Korea and should be dragged to the military,

    Out of all people,

The singer who made the least contribution to KPop in recorded history, IU, was ranked #1!

Now we have a new list

    1. BlackPink

    2. BTS

    3. Twice

    4. NewJeans

    5. Stray Kids

    6. Gidle

    7. IVE

    8. Seventeen

    9. Le Sserafim

    10. Psy

A tectonic change from last and the singer who contributed nothing to KPop is finally out of the list which she should not have belonged to begin with.

    (Korean)

    1. NewJeans

    2. IVE

    3. BlackPink

    4. IU

    5. Le Sserafim

    6. Gidle

    7. BTS

    8. aespa

    9. Seventeen

    10. Bol4

Several things can be pointed out

    1. NewJeans spent too much time in Korea. It has taken the #1 position in Korea but is only #4 in the world.

The discrepancy is smaller than last year when IU was #1 in Korea and #10 globally . . bur NewJeans,. while popular in Korea, showed a weakness outside of it so it is not a very encouraging sign.

IVE is #2 but at least it is having a world tour, trying to assemble fans out of Korea.

    2. Bol4 has entered the Korean ranking

When the Worst Offender against KPop is taking a 2 year hiatus, and trot (not counted here) had drawn many older Korean fans away, Bol4 has reentered the Korean psyche, who can never wean the Korean style ballads.

It seems becoming #1 in Korea is getting more and more meaningless.

Min Heejin got her ego filled because NewJeans took #1 in Korea, but to avoid becoming like IU, conquering Korea but irrelevant for the rest of the world other than a huge deterrent to the KPop Conquest of the World, Min Heejin will have to refocus NJ to increasingly ignore Korea and to expand more to the world.

  • I think New Jeans is pretty big in the west :/ give them another 2 years, and they'll be the top group alongside IVE. For boy groups, Stray Kids and Seventeen will continue to rise in the west. Seventeen is already the #1 biggest boy group globally besides BTS. But we all know the true queen of kpop and the world, IU, will return and kick all the other competition out of the park.

Next year will be decisive. After next year the opportunity would be lost
