If Twice did not renew with JYP, there would have been no stadium tours in 2025

  • During the 16th century, Henri II, the King of France, and his queen Catharine of the Medici had seven children who survived infancy (and a couple more who didn't, whose names no one bothered to record).

Their names were Francois, Elizabeth, Claude, Charles, Henri, Marguerite and another Francois.

At that time no one thought about the Duke of Navarre, Henri, becoming the King.

Catherine de Medicis wielded a huge influence over her children. As a result her sons were weak. Her daughters, who married faraway princes, were less affected.

The first son, Francois, became King and died without a heir.

The second son, Charles, became King and died without a heir.

At that time the two remaining sons, Henri and Francois, had no heirs but since the younger Francois was in his twenties a heir could be expected.

Henri became King Henri III, but the younger Francois got involved to some intrigue and died.

So, suddenly, the Duke of Navarre became the closest heir to the French throne.

Catharine de Medicis named the uncle of Henri III, who was a cardinal in some monastery, as Henri's heir and since the cardinal, being a priest, had no heirs he would name someone to succeed the throne, keeping it out of Navarre's hands. However the cardinal also died.

Catharine de Medicis died after it became clear that Navarre would be the next King, The weak willed Henri III, who never really made a single decision without consulting his mother, was suddenly on his own. An assassin ended his confused 7 month rule, and the protestant Duke of Navarre now became Henri IV. (He would later convert to Catholicism later but that is another story.)

    ====

As we entered 2023, out of singers who debuted after 2000, only two acts had full concerts in a stadium - BTS and IU, the sworn enemy of KPop.

I had warned that if BTS falls IU would become the most powerful singer of Korea again, leading KPop to its bad old days.

Then Twice and BlackPink had full stadium concerts, making the transition of KPop secure . Or it seemed.

And, lo and behold, now BlackPink may not continue as we know it. This circle of stadium tours might well be its last.

both Txt and Stray Kids are not doing full scale concerts yet. They are doing a concert in the half-scale 'stadium', the BMO, but that's it.

None of the individual BTS members are doing stadium tours. JK might have gotten there but Taylor Swift is waiting to sink him in November.

So , in later half of 2024, only Twice would be doing stadium concerts.

I don't know whether txt or Stray Kinds would do stadium concerts in 2025, but they might. Given the emphasis on tiktok-style music I don't see the 4th gen girl groups doing stadium tours by then.

So, Twice, out of all these acts , continues the tradition of stadium tours in KPop.

    JYP gets to laugh last.

If Twice didn't re-sign, there would have been only IU who would be still active and had done a stadium concert remaining in Korea.

Of course if things progressed that far, she might have decided to ditch her habit of writing her own lyrics and jump into Kpop, but at the age of 31 (actually 1,345) that would have been a hard sell for her.

tl.dr. Twice will keep the tradition of KPop stadium concerts in 2024.

  • If Dinosaurs had not gone extinct millions of years ago, mammals would have not progressed as much, and humans may have never developed the way we did, therefore there would be no Twice stadium tour.

And in that timeline a certain raptor will sing a tune with a three high note , and become DinoPop's Least Useful Raptor (DLUR, pronounced like dler')..

  • But was the singer that should not be named alive back then?

For TXT that's because Big Hit had already committed to the venue sizes and wasn't willing to change, so they just added extra dates instead to try to meet the demand. They seem to be going by a system of doubling the capacity each tour, so their next tour will likely have an average venue size of 40-50k.

Will their tour consist of a single venue with a capacity of 40-50k? Because no one in Kpop is doing those numbers.

Probably a mix of venues larger than that and smaller than that. Their 2023 tour ranged between 13k and 55k, with the global average coming out at 25k. The US average was closer to 20k, so the US average next tour might be closer to 40k (or slightly below) with the global average being closer to 50k. This is of course if they continue their trend of doubling their venue sizes, which seems likely given their growth and given the fact that many of the last tour's venues were far too small for the demand :pepe-notes:
