I feel like they are so multifaceted and all of them stand strong in their own way!
Each of the different “layers” to NewJeans, I would say, are all main selling points to the group.
Concept/Styling- Effortlessly Cool (soft luxury junior)
They never look like they’re trying to look cool, or well dressed, or usually like they are meant to be one cohesive unit specifically. But they DO look cool, well dressed and cohesive. They usually have very safeguarding clothes, never anything that would make them lose their youth or innocent look, but instead using safety shorts as part of the outfit, and using oversized tshirts and jerseys in their favor instead of haphazardly.
Visuals - Natural IT girl.
All of them have a very clean aesthetic, even when they have stickers across their face or bunny ears. They still always have the “no make-up” make-up look. They have natural haircolors to compliment their make-up and youthful styling. I have been noticing, however, (mostly from Lolla) that they are all very athletically built. It looks like they play lacrosse lowkey or like field hockey. Overall their visual aesthetic reminds me of the popular girls in school that were all beautiful, friends with each other, excelled in extracurriculars etc.
Music Production
This one really speaks for itself. They effortlessly work beats and weave adlibs and vocals in out so well. Honestly, i’ll say this forever, when you listen to Cool With You the way they have the vocal production done so well that the pre-chorus to chorus change still makes my heart race everytime “Cool” is sang. Its so well done and refreshingly progressive. Its the first time I would say that a kpop group has uniquely found a sound that I actually don’t think sounds copied from a western band directly, nor a kpop group from the past. I would say that the closest person that they remind me of would be Alina Baraz if she was pop coded.
Stage Presence
Each of them are pretty strong at least in dancing, if they aren’t great at engaging the audience already. The first stand out for me was Hyein because she has the strut and confidence of a 90s supermodel and its so exciting. Hanni, Danielle and Minji are all hypemen on stage and love interacting with the crowd, even if it’s through a music show performance and they just get to make expressive faces or quick hand gestures. Haerin, i think, is the secret weapon though. She has the best stability lowkey out of all of them while actually actively dancing. Normally the other girls do the dance less pointed during their singing parts when they sing live, Haerin however does the whole dance the entire time and sings the entire time with ease, save for volume control.
Lastly,
Vocals!!!
They arent Aretha, Mariah, Ariana, Xtina and Whitney by any means, but they are all strong vocalists and do all have nice natural tones, including live singing. They have proven to me that even in their more physically demanding performances, they can give energized vocals as pop girlies
