You gotta remember NCT Dream staying as one group probably screwed SMs BG schedule and trainees ages.
During Dream’s 1st beyond live concert(2020), Renjun teased they would be debuting in a new group soon. That was years ago and that didn’t happen. Which not to be a conspiracy theorist, but the rumor plan was Mark & Haechan to 127, Chenle/Renjun Way V, and Jisung, Jeno, Jaemin ???. Which funny enough, the older 22/21 members are 4 ( & close to Dreams ages) , so 4 (new) + 3 (dream) equal 7 and there’s the group.
Again this is pure speculation, because apparently SM still has a NCT unit in the works, and possibly some of those trainees could have been the ones debuting with Dream.
I’m assuming that’s why they seem a bit older, because SM decided to promote dream instead of debuting them, then had to restructure the group with new trainees.

Production wise, specifically in the verses and beats, I can see that working!
Hoping emotional pop is kpop code for R&B. Especially with the release of the DEAN cover.
I never get excited when SM describes something! It’s a pity.
Based off the aura energy of the group, it should be more like “Emotional Pop [with R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap influences]”.
I looked up “Emotional Pop” on YT and some songs that caught my eyes are: Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next”, “7 Rings”, Kehlani’s “Nights Like This“, Maroon 5’s “Memories”, and Lizzo’s “Special”.
I mentioned songs in NCT’s catalog before that are in the stratosphere of “Special” (i.e. “I.O.U”) and “Night’s Like This” (i.e. “7th Sense”). If they go this route for some songs they’ll be “on money”.

Not sure if I agree with that.
Imo, this group was planned a Korean centered new NCT unit a couple of years ago unrelated with Dream. The delay was a decision to whether they were going to keep NCT as their only active BG for another 7 years generation or not. I do believe LSM wanted SM to keep NCT as it is, limitless. SMNBG has been teased for quite few years, but never confirmed. The NCT new units also were teased, but never confirmed. This is a sign of internal indecision and I do believe they actually have trainees for both, NCT new unit and SMNBG
Once LSM was gone, SM board finally decided to end NCT and debut a brand new BG. The caveat here is I believe they choose to debut a brand new group, but with the NCT Unit team instead of younger trainees SMNBG. Why they choose to use Shotaro and other SM rookies even if they are older? I dunno. That's we can only guess

I think keeping Nct Dream together contributed to that because the dreamies were probably supposed to be the oldest/leaders of other groups after graduation but it ended up not happening.
And I'm glad that they are debuting older boys instead of robbing teens of their teenage years due to early debuts.
