2nd gen: 2004-2012

3rd gen: 2013-2017

4rth gen: 2018-2022

actually it makes sense for the 5th gen to start this year; the 2nd generation is longer because back then the music industry, especially the kpop music indusrty was very different than what it is today; there were less labels, groups and such. But after that, 3rd gen lasted only five years, so It's logical to think 4rth gen would have lasted for five years too.

But Idk, many big debuts happend the last year, but even EXO debuted in 2012, and they are not considered a second generation group. So I guess groups like LESSERAFIM and New Jeans would be considered 5th gen groups in the future

As for this Kpop generation debate, i'm pretty sure that 5th Gen will start in 2025ish when one of three things happens:

1) BTS comes back as a full group; or

2) The first full non Asian superstar idol in Kpop rises to prominence (white/black/Latino); or

3) The first openly queer idol makes headlines for a Big 5 group ( JYP-YG-SM-Hybe-Kakao).

watch kpop fans try to make new jeans, Ive, lfsm be 5th gen like they did with G idle, szk and the boys
