Filial Duty Running Amok in KPop - why these 4th Gen acts revere a Senior Singer who contributed nothing to KPop

  • In K-O-R-E-A, which is still enamored with the notion of filial duty, a mother(usually a mother) can abandon a child , yet fifty-odd years later, if the child dies unmarried, she can and will claim the dead child's properties even though she did nothing to raise the child.

That is because even though the mother did not raise the child, nothing can deny that the mother is the child's blood relative, she only has rights and no obligation to the child and is entitled for everything, according to K-O-R-E-A-N law.

And, in KPop, someone who has contributed absolutely nothing to the advancement of KPop has been a Senior Singer since 2014 and is still menacing newer KPop acts.

The circus surrounding Wonyoung and Leeseo's lip synching of 'Strawberry Moon' created a controversy. Some people said if the idols want to have a longer career they have to develop their skills, not flashing off.

Do you seriously think Wonyoung will be an idol when her contract with Starshit will end?

Whyknock has been collecting incidents of idols paying filial duty to the Senior Singer who insists on her Seniority without contributing anything to KPop's Advancement to the World, and here are some examples of Filial Duty running Amok.

    Only Jennifer is standing strong.

I hope BabyMonster is immune from Filial Duty, a bad custom which clouds the future of Korean Pop, since someone who contributed nothing towards the advancement of KPop around the world should not be held in such reverence by younger generations of KPop .

  • This could have very well been a thread called, "4th Gen Idols Paying Homage to IU".

Filial is not the right word to use here lol.

If it were other singers, probably. But IU is the Senior Singer and wields an enormous power.

in K-O-R-E-A-N historical dramas, the dowager queen (not necessarily related to the reigning king by blood - often she was a second/third/whatnot wife of the late king, and was around the same age as the current king) wields an enormous power. She is invariably the enemy of the reigning king, who tries to do some good things; she and her cohort are ultrareactionary, ultra greedy and ultra evil.

In dramas they usually lose in the end. Unfortunately, in real history, they always won since although they had nothing to do with the King by blood, they were technically the King's mother/grandmother and the King could not disobey them since doing so would be going against Filial Duty, a fundamental ideology in Asian philosophy.

In 201 4, to give EXO two Grand Prizes and to frustrate Melon/Loen (at that time Melon was not owned by Kakao), MNet gave IU a Lifetime Achievement Award. But that led to a butterfly effect - IU was senior to everyone in KPop, and now could wield an enormous power over them, and did.

That's still not the correct use of filial lol.

  • so...

you're trying take one of the most revered defining cultural traits for Koreans and other east asian cultures and somehow use it to bash IU? - cus the links are mostly IU covers..

So this is an indirect IU bashing thread? Idols covering IU is done for filial duty and that IU hasnt contributed anything to kpop or korean music?

if so.. *STRONGLY disagree.. on BOTH what you think filia duties are and on your implication that IU has done "nothing" to contribute in advancing kpop

    * or is this a weird..homage to IU? i dont get it

Edited once, last by lahel ().

  • You must be new to Whyknock posts, he has diligently tried to inform and warn the public about IUs negative influence on kpop for about 10 years or so on various kpop forums. Alas, few are those who see the light and realise the danger of the senior singers reign.

OHhhhh... i think i vaguely remember someone like this from another forum.

    wow. that's dedication

  • Filial duty is a benighted custom still plaguing some cultures.

IU's seniority significantly tilts Korean Pop to the wrong decision - something is not right if someone with practically no contribution to KPop's world advancement receives so much reverence from the future KPop warriors.

She is a Senior Singer, and in Asia there is a long custom that the King, the Teacher and the Parent should be revered and not to be disobeyed. Since she belongs to the 2nd Gen and is a Senior Singer, she is kind of the Teacher and Older Gen for the 4th Gen, notwithstanding her complete lack of contribution of advancing KPop outside of Korea.

That leads to her having a wide say about how KPop will progress, even though she played no role about it. It is like someone who was selling surgical equipment to be asked to do surgery.

  • sorry I should've been specific - what about the 3rd generation? are they filial?

They were generally filial since she came forth and extracted it herself

Everyone standing around the then 24 years old (her true age not yet revealed) singer as if she was the Gang Kingpin

  • idk.. i think you're trying very hard to hear IU compliments since everything you write is significantly wrong. this almost seems like a bait for us to write IU praises and her accomplishment....cus you're a secret stan.. pretending to be an anti.
